Babies on the Brain

I'm going to scream (long vent)

You've all heard how much my dog likes cat food and what the consequences are when it happens.  We have a very simple solution to this: the cat dishes go on the very deep windowsills in the dining room.  The dog can't reach it and all three cats are willing and able to go onto the windows to eat.

There's only one issue with this: DH.  No matter how many times we discuss this, he keeps putting the dishes on the floor.  We have talked about it at least 15 times.  My only guess is the because he is not the one walking the dog every day and scraping runny *** off the sidewalk, he just can't understand.  He is also not in a state where the dog's cat food gas literally makes him vomit like I am.

I don't get it.  I have talked, I have cried, I have begged, and he still can't get this one fvcking thing through his fvcking skull.  I know in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal, but I am so GD tired of talking about it and I don't understand why he can't just put the fvcking cat food up.

  • Dude. That is not cool. Catfood is actually NOT good for the dog. It has too much fat and protein because cats have a higher metabolism etc. Maybe explain to him that he is seriously damaging the dogs long term health by letting it continue to eat cat food and not just short term digestive issues.

Also, on days you find catfood bowls on the floor give the dog some plain white yogurt to help his/her digestive system process it.

If all else fails, whack DH upside the head with a frying pan and maybe he will forget to mess with the cats completely. :)

  • Ditto what Buckin said.

Also make DH walk the dog every time the cat dish is on the floor!

  • Ditto the other two and serve DH cat food for dinner when he does that.

  • I have been known to put "reminder" notes on things. Seriously large and obnoxious notes. Put a bright colored piece of paper on the bag of cat food with size 30 font---"DO NOT LEAVE CAT FOOD BOWLS WERE THE DOG CAN REACH THEM."  (or if you give canned, put the cans in a box/bag, and put the note on that)

  • Scare tactics? Cat food is bad for pups and will send your pup into kidney failure.

True story, very sad.  Jessie LOVED cat food and would find it and eat it.

  • Now, knowing what happens to Bax's ass after cat food I say you rent yourself a hotel room for the day and let your h clean it all up.

And ditto Buck and AKA.  Since you feed the cats certain times, could you keep Bax in a different room while they eat?

  • They're all grazers, so there's food out constantly.  It's fine if I'm with Bax 24 hours a day, but if I'm doing something like throwing up and can't watch him, and I don't realize the cat food is on the floor, he immediately goes over to it and chows down.

You know, I try explaining to the dog that he can't have it and that it makes him sick, but he's a DOG.  You'd think my intelligent husband would get it.

  • Your husband is intelligent, but like any person may need constant reminders.  I like AKA's idea of keeping a note out for him to see.  Put the reminders on the food containers and leave the food bowls in the window sill.  He can just fill them over there.  That way the bowls never really move and there's a visual reminder on the containers.

OR- you take over feeding them.

OR- have them eat at certain times.

OR- move to CA where Henry and Bax can be friends and he won't have any chance to eat cat food.

    I like this option.  :)
