3rd Trimester

mole changes during pregnancy

I have a mole on my breast that has always been there. I keep an eye on it to make sure there are no changes but today I noticed that it looks like its grown in size/filled out a little more.  I have a dr appt in a week and will talk to them then, but has anyone else experienced this?  I have a couple other moles and they all seem to be fine.  I would really rather not have it removed during pregnancy if I dont have to.  I get REALLY nervous about needles and the thought of having it cut off makes my anxiety go nuts and I'd rather not put that stress on the baby if I dont have to.  Any thoughts/advice??  Oh and there is no pain or oozing (sorry if TMI) when touching it.

Yup -- I have had three moles change in size and become a bit puffier on my belly and chest (including one inside my belly button).  I am just going to keep an eye on them and after delivery figure out if they need to come off.

None of mine have changed - I have a fairly large one under my breast and another right by my breast in my armpit, but my breasts haven't really changed in shape/size either. If you've had breast changes like most people have by this stage in pregnancy, I would guess that the change in your mole could have something to do with breast changes. Especially since your mole is actually on your breast.

I have had changes, I've also had some clogged milk ducts (which I didnt have with my first pg) so I thought the same thing you did.  I will mention it at my next appt and hopefully I can just wait till after the baby is here then have it looked at.

  • i noticed that i have one in my bikini area that is now raised.  it's hard because i can't actually see it.  i asked my doctor about it and she said it's normal.  it will be up to me to see a dermatologist after the baby is born if it still is different. but she didn't seem too concerned.

  • Most of my moles are flat, they have however become darker since becoming pregnant. BTW what do clogged milk ducts look/feel like? Do they look like a pimple or what? I read about them and how painful they were, but didn't see what one looked like
  • I am covered in moles... (I seriously have at least 50 on my left arm.)

If your mole becomes irregular shaped,(not round, or has jagged edges) or larger than the size of a pencil eraser, or if it changes color, or has  more than one color in it, I would get it checked out.

This is the advice I have been given all of my life from being covered in them.

If nothing else, ask your doctor at your next appointment. They really don't hurt to have removed either if that is the route that is needed. I had a large one removed from my neck as a child, and it was fine. No real pain. So don't stress out over it! :)

    Hope that helps.

My clogged ducts were right around my nipple in the areola area.   It was raised and felt like a little round ball under the skin.  It was a little tender but not bad.  When I shower or put a hot wash cloth on it and massage it it gets smaller or goes away.  They seem to come and go too.

Ooh okay, thanks for the info. I know I have had a few bumps on my breasts I took as a break out. Although they didnt seem like pimples to me, just red bumps. Maybe I will try the hot washcloth next time and see if that helps :) thanks!!

Thanks!  It probably is about the size of a pencil eraser now (before it was a little smaller) color is consistent and its round but there is a jagged part to it that is flat and not raised but it has ALWAYS been that way.  I'm sure it's not painful but I still get myself all worked up over that kind of stuff.  I have passed out from shots before (dr and dentist office) and couldn't even THINK about having my blood taken without my BP skyrocketing (pregnancy has cured this fear)

  • I would get it checked out, but I would not make it an emergency. I went at 4 weeks postpartum for an all over skin exam because my moles went crazy while I was pregnant. I did have 2 abnormal mole removed and all is well now.
  • I went to my dermatologist earlier in the pregnancy because of mole changes. Two of moles changed colored and were bleeding. She checked them and said they were fine and that your skins changes  a lot during pregnancy and afterward. She wanted me to come back in to have a yearly full-body scan but told me to wait until 6 months post-partum because you can continue to have skin changes. I would show your doctor but it  is probably nothing to worry about!

  • My derm told me it was really common for moles to change/darken during pregnancy.  Not sure if they stay that way or not though.
