WWYD: Swimming Lessons (long, probably boring)

I had DD in swimming lessons for a long time. She loved them. There were a few problems with her class, though- they were expensive, the facility was terrible ("temporary" facility in an office building, and we got an email that it was actually not so temporary as the owner couldn't get financing for a real facility), terrible customer service, and probably the biggest problem, which was that DD's class was during a time she would normally still be sleeping, so I had to wake her up to take her.

I canceled that a while ago, but now she keeps asking to swim and kicking her legs whenever she is in the bath tub. I know she would really like to do it again.

So, I am researching. I found a much better facility that is also a swim school (just like her first place) but is a real pool, etc. They have classes in the evenings, which would be perfect for DD. They are pricey, but almost exactly the same as the last place.

There is also a local rec center that does swimming lessons. They are super cheap compared to DD's old place. The problem is the timing, I would have to leave work early to make it there on time, and I am not sure how possible that will be. Also, every month we would have to do a lottery to see if we could get a space in the new class. The lady I talked to said that classes do fill up, so it wouldn't be a guaranteed thing each month.

At DD's age I don't think a swim school vs swimming lessons is really vital. So I guess the debate I am having with myself is would the extra cost be worth the reduced hassle of the other place? WWYD?

Ditto especially since work is involved.

  • If the $$ isn't a big strain on your budget, I'd go with the hassle free.

  • I would do the swim school.  It sounds like the extra money is worth it.

Where is it? DS was taking lessons where he's going to start his daycare/preschool program this fall, but the pool was 84 degrees, which froze him out. He's got no body fat and was so cold he could barely unfurl his arms or move his legs. Even in a long rashguard and a wetsuit!  Yet it was all he could talk about.  If the pool is warm and it's at a good time, maybe we'd join you.

  • We are going to Safe Splash, I think. We are going to the one on Smoky Hill and Gun Club, so it would be pretty far from you. They have several locations, though!
  • Oh, and the water is 92 degrees, so definitely warm.
