Thoughts on Ivy

So I was team green, now turned team pink, which I am very excited about, but we had a boy name picked out, but girl names are hard for us. Right now my favorite name is Ivy, it fits all our naming criteria, easy to spell and pronounce, no nicknames etc. Middle name will be Pearl (family name). What do you think? Our last name is Weaver, do you think Ivy Weaver flows ok? I am concerned with too much "v" sound. Thank you.

Re: Thoughts on Ivy

  • Sorry, I really don't like Ivy (and especially don't care for the combination Ivy Pearl).

I like the other names on your list much better than Ivy. I especially love Charlotte, Savannah and Juliet!

  • I really like it, although I don't think Ivy Pearl is great.  It is a little odd that both names are actual things.  But it isn't that big a deal since I don't think mns are used that often in day to day life.
  • I like the name, personally.  It is a lot of "V" in Ivy Weaver, though.

One of my birth month ladies just named her LO Ivy...

  • I don't think it's too much V. I think that the name fits with the current trend of old-fashioned names, without being too popular.
  • I think it's very cute. I've actually considered using Ivy if we have another girl.

  • well, i'm biased... i think ivy is an awesome name. :)

i would have to agree with pp that it is a little strange that ivy and pearl are both nouns, but i don't think it sounds horrible (and it's nice that it's a family name). my ivy has a three-syllable MN, and i really like the way it flows.

here's a list of names that mean pearl: https://nameberry.com/search/by_meaning/1/Pearl (if it doesn't link, it's on nameberry.com under 'meanings').

and i think ivy weaver is just fine.

  • Its okay. I am not really a fan of Ivy and it doesn't sound great with the middle name or the last name you have... sorry. Juliet is a great option on your list!
  • i like ivy but i would definitely not ever mix two word names, let alone 3. it just makes it sound like it isn't a real name. i think that since your last name is a word you should rethink the first and middle names and go with ones that aren't words.

sorry, i know that's probably not what you want to hear.

I totally understand what you mean, I love the name Ivy, but when you say them all together, it sounds like a job description not a name. Same thing with Autumn on our list, which DH really likes, but I don't.

I think Juliet and Charlotte flow the best with our middle name and last name choice. I just wish I loved them as much as Ivy. Thanks for the input ladies.

  • I love the name Ivy.  I know a little girl with this name and she's the sweetest.  I do agree with pps that I don't really like the flow of Ivy Pearl; however, if it's a family name I'd stick with it anyway.

  • I like Ivy, but not with your MN or LN. (Plus I do think kids would call her "Poison Ivy" a lot. And yes, I know they can come up with nicknames for anything, but some names lend themselves more to teasing than others.) I like Charlotte and Juliet a lot.

  • I think Ivy Pearl is beautiful.  My middle name is Ivy and my late grandmother was named Pearl. If I were having a girl I would love to name her this,

Thanks! Glad someone likes the combo Ivy Pearl, we are very set on using Pearl, it is both DH's grandmothers name and my great-grandmothers name.
