Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Ahhh....STILL Peeing Out of Diapers!

I posted yesterday here about DS still peeing out of his Pampers Baby Dry diapers at night, even though I went up a size, since he started sleeping on his back and stomach. I got recommendations to try Pampers Extra Protection and Huggies Overnites.

I went and bought Pampers Extra Protection yesterday, still one size up from what he wears during the day, and he was just as soaked this morning as he is with the Baby Dry. I thought maybe I should go up TWO sizes, but it doesn't appear that Pampers makes the Extra Protection bigger than a size 5 and DS would need a size 6 to go up two sizes (he's a big boy).

The Huggies Overnites do come in a size 6 but it looks like I'm going to have to order them and won't be able to get them in store. I feel terrible for him having to lay in soaked pajamas and sheets for one more night, so does anyone have a suggestion of anything I can possibly do until the ones I order come in?

  • Are you making sure the ruffles on teh pampers are all pulled out?  and that his..umm.."business" is pointing down.   hehehe

  • Do you know if the leak is coming through the legs or the top of the diaper?

Make sure his penis is pointing down.

Would a cloth diaper cover over the disposable diaper help hold it in place better?

Maybe if the diapers are too big his penis moves up when he pees & it leaks out of the diaper??

  • i am wondering if the diapers are too big.  i have a girl, but we use the huggies overnights in the same size she wesrs during the day and no leaks!!

  • Maybe try a different brand? I use the Target Up&up brand. I have tried all the others. These are the only ones that normally don't leak.
  • I have a girl and have been having issues with the pampers baby dry too. We also have the sam's club members mark brand and those seem to hold up better. We use cloth during the day, so I don't know about sizing differences btwn day and night but she uses size 3 still.

what about buying some cheap prefolds (even the gerber brand) at target or something. just trifold it and lay it in the diaper, that way it will have extra holding capabilities.

Then you can just wash them, or really they are really cheap so if you didn't want to wash them (which is super easy) then you could likely throw them out.

  • Why did you go up in size at all? If they're not the size he wears during the day, then wouldn't that mean that one size up is too big? Or are you equating larger size with more absorbency? With DS, in disposable, we've never had a problem with leaking and he's always worn the same size at night as he wears during the day (in various brands). We cloth diaper DD and are happier with these than we ever were with disposables. Maybe it'd be worth giving CDing ( at least at night) a try. If all else fails, and it's really driving you nuts, maybe it'd be worth waking up in the night to change him.

  • I uses Huggies Overnights one size up from his normal size. We sometimes have leaks, but it's getting better. He sleeps from 8:30-5am and wakes to eat so I change him then, then he goes back to bed. Make sure you point "him" downward. Also, make sure you're making the waste tight enough. Again we still sometimes have leaks, but not every night! GL

  • The only dipes DD won't leak out of overnight are cloth dipes. Size 6 disposables are HUGE for a 6 month old. On the few occasions we use sposies (like when g'ma watches her) my daughter can still wear Size 2's, and she's in the 50% for height and weight. I'm thinking your dipes are too big and/or you don't have the ruffles/gathers pulled all the way out all the way around.
