I start taking Prometrium today and was wondering if anyone else has taken or currently taking it? What have been your side effects? Did it help your levels?
Hi! Just wanted to jump in from the 3rd tri to let you know that I took it during the 1st tri and it really helped my levels. At 6wks, my progesterone level was an 8 and I was pregnant with twins at the time. After starting on the Prometrium it got up into the teens and stayed there.
As far as side effects, the biggest one for me was bloating. It was horrible! I started wearing maternity pants by 9 weeks just for a little relief! My peri told me the side effects are often the same as pregnancy symptoms (exhaustion, nausea, ect.).
At any rate, I sure am thankful for it; I honestly think Prometrium is the only reason I'm still pregnant at this point. Good luck to you!!!

I took it from week 5 to 13. My level at 5 weeks was 8.6 and it brought it up enough to sustain the pregnancy. I took it vaginally and didn't have any side effects.
I still am on progesterone in the form of 17P shots. And again, no side effects other than what I think is a little extra weight gain.
I am taking 200mg intravaginally twice daily. The side effects so far have been sedation (like I took benadryl) and bloating up a storm. But it will be worth it if baby sticks! Right now I'm only 5 weeks and change.
I am weaning off it now. I've been on it since 4 weeks. It makes me tired and nauseous, but nothing awful. I don't know if it helped my levels (they never tested again) but as of last week's NT scan, I had a healthy baby. Fingers crossed
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."

I just started taking it yesterday. I take two vaginal suppositories a day and will be for 10 weeks. My doctor wants me to have regular blood draws to meause my levels while I'm on it.
The only side effects I've had are slight dizziness, headache, and as kdodge said, neon-yellow CM!
Thanks for all the input. I took my first dose tonight (orally), WOW I felt like I was drunk. Very dizzy and very tired, but it did not last very long. Since I haven't been sleeping well maybe I will take orally before I go to bed and vaginal when I wake up for they day. I really hope this helps. I have two blood draws set up this week and an ultrasound on the 9th. I thought I was about 7-8 weeks pregnant based on my last m/c, but I wasn't for sure. My ultrasound showed about 5 weeks. It's good to talk to others who are going through the same things.
I have taken progesterone with 3 pregnancies. Both my DD1 and my DD2 I took it from 2 DPO on up to 14 weeks pg. In my heart I know that is why those pregnancies had successful outcomes. (My OB was very skeptical about vaginal progesterone, but after 5 m/c he would have given me a prescription for moon rocks if there was the slightest chance of helping.)
Good luck and a H&H 9 months
