Success after IF

A gift from baby to older sibling(s)

If you did a gift to the older sibling(s) from your new addition, what did you get?

I would like to get G something from his brother after S2 arrives, but have no idea what. Is it supposed to be a memento gift (which by 2yr couldn't care less for), or a toy that big bro will enjoy?

Ideas please? (and thank you!)

  • We wrapped up a few little toys I knew he would like and he opened them when he visited us at the hospital.

  • We did this!

Henry got Sophi a magazine, some candy and an Aeropostle t-shirt she wanted.

Henry got Sophi a little stuffed elephant that plays music, a lego kit and some candy.

    :)

  • I have no experience..but would imagine that a fun toy to play with would be far more well recieved than a momento.  Maybe a few small toys and a cute "Big Brother" shirt or picture frame.

  • We did this, although I'm sure my 16 month old didn't quite get the concept.  DS got her a Little people train set.  :)
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • We got DD an American Girl Itty Baby.  I got it at the SAIF GTG.  :)

  • I know I am the mom of an only child but hopefully it is okay if I chime in on this one.

When my neice was born they did this and her big brother was given a dino toy (forget what kind). I had pushed for them to give him a baby doll, stroller, and other accesories because he was going to want to copy mommy and baby for a while. Of course I was right and with in a few weeks he had his first doll and a buch of accesories too. If G doesn't have a baby doll and stroller yet that would be my choice for him.

PS. We just got Riley his first baby doll and stroller. He loves both of them!

  • Thank you everyone for responding and giving me some ideas. I'm glad to see that the gifts were small and play-friendly.

Kittylove, your suggestion is actually pretty brilliant. I DO think that G will like the stroller and a baby doll, especially after seeing how much he enjoyed pushing Special K's around. I might want to get him one of those for his birthday though, rather than from the baby. That way, maybe he'll get to take care of his "baby" before his brother arrives. Ok, one thing to add to his wish-list :)

  • We gave DS a gift every day that the twins and I were in the hospital.  Small stuff that he could play with/use at the hospital- books, sticker books, a puzzle.

A baby and baby stuff is a good idea.  We actually introduced that a few months before the twins got here so that he knew what would happen-- putting baby in stroller, feeding bottle to baby, touching baby gently, etc..
