My heartburn is so gross now it's making me throw up. Tums, obvs, aren't cutting it, so I've moved up the old lady scale to Maalox. My next appointment is next Thursday so I'll be asking for a script then, but I want to try all the OTC stuff first so I don't need another script.
Re: What's your best heartburn relief?
i don't have any good advice, nothing worked for me toward the end. i remember how excited i was to have a piece of pizza after having each of them without having heartburn!
best of luck!
Prevacid! When I was pregnant with ds, I had heartburn really bad and at the time Prevacid wasn't an OTC med, that's the med my dr gave me a script for.
It's expensive but you can always find coupons for it.

Have you tried diet change? Often times, coffee, soda, very salty, spicy food, or highly citrus foods can increase the production of acid, causing heartburn.
Also, eating too-large-of-meals for the decreased space in your belly can cause heartburn. You can try eating very small (like nibble) meals throughout the day... that might help.
Vegetable juices, like raw potato, celery and cabbage are very alkaline and can be even more successful than antacids in correcting an acidic stomach.
Papaya contains the digestive enzyme papain, which has a soothing effect on the stomach and helps break down protein.. so, you could eat a little papaya with each small meal and see if that helps.
I hope you get relief soon, I HATE heartburn... it makes me feel claustrophobic for some reason.
I don't know if it'll work for pregnancy-heartburn, since it's such a ferocious beast, but this was my grandaddy's remedy (and has worked for me in the past):
Mix a small spoonful of baking soda into a little water and drink it (basically shoot it, because it tastes awful). Just don't overdo it - I learned once from experience that it can have a "laxative" effect.
I just wanted to chime in & say I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. :-( It's the worst. I'm on my 7th bottle of Tums and I will probably get through 8 before I deliver this baby. It has just been awful, no matter what I eat or how much/little I eat.
I hope you find something that gives you relief soon.
i have this pretty terribly sometimes too. my ob said it was okay to use zantac...i've only broken down and used it about 3 times but it works.
What type of Pepcid did you use? I need to ask the pharmacist when I get it I guess because there are so many types.
Sage - I'm pretty holistic and usually use meds as a last resort, but this is out of hand. Water gives me heartburn. And the heartburn alone I could live with, but it's so bad it's making me puke still. I need to try the papaya though. I've been doing peppermint tea as well and it doesn't help, but it tastes nice on ice!

When you have to weigh nutritional needs and hydration with taking a medication, yes, tough call, eh?
I hope you do get relief soon, no matter what form it takes!
BFP with no treatment!
The baking soda/water mix really does work. I don't like taking pills either, and MOST of the time, the baking soda remedy will do. Otherwise, I take a generic Zantac just called "Acid Reducer".
