question for bedrest mamas

What do you guys do for your sore backs from laying down all the time (except when necessary)?  My lower back is killing me and it hurts to take a deep breath.  I am so stiff in my back.  Any solutions?  I may ask my OB on Tuesday if I can maybe go to the chiropractor, which has always helped with my lower back pain in the past.

Aside from trying to switch positions (laying on back, then side, then other side)... nothing. But I got permission to get regular back massages and I'm thinking of doing that. Light stretches might help too. Maybe your OB can give you some useful ones.

  • I've been doing a few easy yoga stretches....child's pose and cat pose.  I also have been usuing lots of pillows at night so I can sorta lay on my back..but sideway too..it helps.  And ice. Other than that I think we just have to deal with it....our bodies are being de-conditioned.  It sucks!  But worth it for the baby(ies).

  • Change positions often and ask your doctor if you're ok to use a microwaveable heating pad. The pads are inexpensive and work wonders for sore lower back.

  • I use both heat and cold.  Eventually I got a TENS unit.  And the dozen pillows help.  Unfortunately I don't think there is a miracle cure.  The yoga stretches help, too.  I actually have been thinking of asking permission to go to a chiropractor also.  Let us know, if you go, if it helps.

I have 3 options: change positions, put on an ice pack (it has straps to hold it in place) or use a heat pad. I've been having terrible back pain for the past couple of months (not sure why, because I'm still very small!) and before I was put on strict bedrest, I was going to my chiropractor. Anyway, I hope this helps!
