Trying to Get Pregnant

Slow down cart... let the horse catch up!!!

I can't help it, I feel like I've been waiting years and years for this time in my life.  I admit, I am putting the cart waaaaay before the horse.  But it may be getting serious! haha!!

The other day, I sold the queen bed and the rest of the bedroom suite from our guest bedroom to make room for a future LO... so now we've got an empty guest bedroom and DH is kinda peeved.  Hmpf.  And yesterday, I actually bought 3 maternity shirts..... What was I thinking???  I'm kind of embarrassed, but has anyone else done this before?  I know that planning is very important, but srsly... am I out of control??  What have you done to prepare for pregnancy that may be a bit too soon?

Re: Slow down cart... let the horse catch up!!!

  • I probably would have held on to the bedroom set til BFP just in case you have house guests..but I don't think the maternity shirts are a big deal.  I haven't gotten any myself, but if it's not breakin the bank & you want it, buy it!

  • my cart is halfway around the block and my horse isn't even outta the gate yet!!

so far i have bought a diaper bag...its a petunia picklebottom diaper bag and i LOVE it, so when they had a sale, you can bet i was ALL over that! we have also bought the bedding for the crib, we want to do a penguin themed nursery (for boy or girl) so we I seen the bedding I just HAD to get it! I have 2 maternity shirts, but the only reason i got those was because they were on such a good sale at Old Navy they were like $2 a piece!!! You can't beat that! I am just thankful my DH is onboard with my purchases! he is the one who said I could the diaper bag (as one of my bday gifts) and he is the one who found the bedding too!

  • Well I will admit I have looked at Maternity clothes and my sister is holding onto 5 bins of baby girl stuff in the event we have a girl.  I have also went to the point of saying if one of my friends gets pregnant and has maternity clothes I will ask for them before they get rid of them.

I can't say you are going over the top with the clothes, but selling the bedroom furniture is pretty big.  I can't say you were wrong though because you could be blessed with a LO quickly so who knows, except God.

    GL on TTC!

  • My mind always goes to that place, but I have been able to be pretty good about limiting my purchases. I have 2 picture frames that would be great in a nursery, but could also be used anywhere (although I am holding out on using them in hopes of having a BFP soon!). I also bought a shirt that is not a maternity shirt but would transition well, hehe. I don't think what you have done is too bad though, it's not like you have bought crib or anything yet right? Right....? Hehe, just kidding! Big Smile

  • I know right.... it could be a year or more!  It's just that when I found someone who needed the furniture and had money, I thought I should get rid of it while I could. jeesh... how does DH put up with me? haha
  • --and no, I haven't bought a crib yet!!  I'm holding myself back!!
  • I've had to stop myself a few times from buying too much baby stuff or rearranging our house too much but I did slip a little. I bought a vera bradley baby bag a few weeks ago and I also bought a little phillies onesie that I can give to my husband when we get out BFP. Other than that I have definitely been to the motherhood maternity website and scoped it out but I haven't bought anything. And as for our guest room...I've contemplated getting rid of everything in there but I figured I should wait just in case...but I don't blame you! I have a feel that one of these days I'm going to lose my grip on baby self control and buy a ton of clothes and clear out that room!

    No.

The one and only thing I bought is a onesie that says "I love daddy" on it. I plan on telling MH with it when we get a BFP.

I think nuying bedding, selling furniture to have an empty room and all that shebang is way too much without being pregnant. But that is just my opinion.

I have been holding off, for one I feel like I might jynx it (silly I know) but for two, I am quite a private person and I don't want to be answering questions if someone stumbles across something in my house baby related before I'm pregnant. Also, I am a nail tech, so my 'baby room' is my nail room right now, and I don't want to put anything in there. I suppose there is my basement, but if my mom comes over to let my dogs out or something I don't want her to find it. She (well actually both sets of our parents) are beyond excited for us to have a baby, but we're not even telling them that we're thinking about it. No pressure that way :)

  • I got a few free subscriptions to baby & parenting magazines.  Before MH and I were TTC, we bought some cheap baby clothes online.  I fixed up my childhood dresser to use in the nursery, and I keep the magazines and clothes in there.

I have a pair of denim maternity pants that I can wear now, and yesterday I bought a pair of stretchy capris that are just a tad too big in the waist, as well as 2 flowy tops to wear over them.  Any clothes I buy now are things I can wear for the first few months of pregnancy that will help me conceal a baby bump/bloat until I'm ready to tell.

YES!!!!  Someone is picking up MY bedroom suite today (sold on craigslist)!!!  I have bought books and onesies and even a journal that I have already been writing to my LO in (but the bad thing is . . .I am not TTC until Sept)!!!  I do hope it isn't a jinx!!!

I did buy a maternity shirt too, but I "loaned" it to my girlfriend who is actually pregnant.

By the way, this could've been my post. . .FOR REAL.

  • I think it is totally understandable. We are planning to sell our guest room furniture literally within the next week and we aren't TTC for a few months. We'd just like to get it out of the way now so we have the space ready for when it is time and we are putting the money in to our "baby fund". We were rearranging the house and decided why not get rid of it now. Plus, it's one more reason not to have the in-laws come stay Wink lol. I don't think it is bad to purchase baby things if you find good deals. There are some things that will always be on sale but if you have a particular bedding set or crib etc in mind and find a good deal, why not.
  • SOOOOO glad I'm not the only one. We are TTC & I keep buying baby stuff too. I know it's not the best idea, because it could be very disappointing if it takes a long time...or if I never get a BFP..but I'm willing to risk it! Luckily my husband "thinks it's cute that I'm excited" so he doesn't mind.

    Good Luck! :-)

  • This is one time in my life that I'm thankful I procrastinate. I am taking it one step at a time! I probably won't buy anything till I'm in my 3rd tri :)

I bought a chicago bears outfit as a way to tell DH when I get that BFP.
