Since being PG and not being able to scoop the litterbox my DH has had to take over the honors. And, to be frank, he just sucks at it. When we had one cat he would have probably been okay getting away with not cleaning it for 5 days but now that we have 2 cats that both poop like horses it is nasty and with my super nose it is almost unbearable. I couldn't even go into the bathroom today.
Sooo...I just bought a CatGenie!!!! I feel so stupid to be so excited over a litterbox but oh well. If this thing works like it is suppose to it is going to be amazing.
They knocked off $100 for just today- which is what mostly prompted me to do it today. They have a 90-day money back so hopefully it will work as well as everyone else says it does.
Does anyone on here have a CatGenie?

Go to www.CatGenie.com to check it out. They have videos to show you but it is pretty much a self cleaning litterbox that you need to attach to a water source and a waste source. You are able to set it to clean by cat activation, 4 times/day, or by manually pushing a button.
In a nut shell it lets the pee drain through to a basin in the bottom and it scoops the poop to a sanitized churning cycle so the all waste will be sent out through a hose to wherever you want it go to (toilet or your waste drain for the washer). It then dries the granules.
They are really expensive but you will regain everything from not buy cat litter or deodorizer. Plus, the best part, no more scooping!
OMG, My DH sucks at the litter box too! We have one cat and he thinks its ok to go a week and I did it every day and it is driving me crazy. Then he gets mad when I remind him and says I am naggin. hahaha.
We looked at the Cat Genie but not sure how we could hook it up. Do you have to keep it in the bathroom?
No but that is where ours is going since our basement isn't finished and we don't want the cats wandering down there. Once the basement is finished we are putting it in the laundry room.
You do need a water source and a waste source though so pretty much just the laundry room or bathroom are the only two places I can think of that you would be able to put it.
The way my bathrooms are Idk if I can swing that. Damn, I will have to look some more.
Yeah, I read some reviews like that but apparently it had something to do with a part? No clue. I read more positive review than negative reviews like that so hopefully it will work- especially with the newer model. There is a 90 day money back guarantee so If I have any issues I will just send it back.
Although, I doubt my cat poops his hair because he sure as all heck pukes enough of it up all the time!
And baked cat poop
We have three standard litterboxes that my DH empties and refills once a week. For 4 cats. It is not often enough. By thursday the boxes are stinking, but he won't change it until Saturday. Twice when my mom was visiting she complained to me in her super judgmental way about the smell. The second time I snapped at her "Do you want me to change it now? Pregnant? No? Well then start complaining to DH because I can't help you."
I want us to invest in better litterboxes. Even just the self-raking kind. DH resists ALL change.
Does anyone know if the sanitation process is designed to kill toxoplasmosis?
Something to think about is that there was an ongoing study in California regarding toxoplasmosis possibly killing otters, and cat waste was believed to be part of the problem. I don't know the current status of that study, but a lot of otters were found dead.
This is why it isn't recommended flushing cat waste down your toilet or allowing it to runoff in drains. It might be best to contact your local water treatment facility to see if they are able to kill the eggs before the water leaves the facility.
Nope I do not. Although, I would imagine that after waste treatment would take care of that- or one would hope. We have city services so it is not like it going into a septic system in our yard sitting and needing to be pumped.
I don't think you can win either way because you have cats who go to the bathroom outside where ever they may be, indoor cat waste to get rid of, and clay/clumping cat litter(which horrible). So at least the positive about the CatGenie is that the granules are biodegradable.
If they ever make find concrete evidence I think it would change a lot of things in regards to properly taking care of cat waste.
The stuff I read about it definitely pointed out that outdoors cats are a big problem. All of that waste runs off somewhere. Unfortunately it's usually our fresh water. Poor little otters.
You'll have to forgive me. I'm actually looking at going to grad school for conservation science. My brain kinda goes that direction.
Haha, no need to be forgiven. Better to be aware than to to be in lala land!
Oh my gosh - my husband and I have owned a CatGenie for over several years now and we honestly think it's one of the best inventions in our home! I have not seen cat poop in years. For a while there, my husband even figured out a way to rig the cleaning cartridges and just refill them himself with cheaper sanitizing solution, but now he says the newer systems (which he ended up buying) are better than ever. The only issue is sometimes, if you have an especially stinky cat (like one of mine), when it runs the smell wafts into the house for a few minutes. What my husband ended up doing is creating a makeshift vent system using a fan and piping which funnels all of that smell outside the house when it runs. No more smells ever!
I can probably go on and on, but yes - I'd highly recommend plopping down the money to get one - just think of what you'd save in kitty litter and hassle. I'd also recommend getting it through Costco - that way, you can always return or exchange it if something happens (or your cats don't take to it) in the future. CatGenie's customer service has been great too (they've sent us spare parts for free even years after purchase).
