Trans Fats affecting ovulation?

the show The Doctors just touched quickly on this, and a quick google won me this: https://www.babyzone.com/preconception/infertility/article/trans-fats-and-fertility

anyone talk to their doc about this?

I don't really eat anything that has trans fats (we're not huge into processed foods, but I have been known to eat a french fry from McD's, lol) but I never heard about this link before.  I plan on reading more about the whole insulin thing and it's relationship too. interesting.

Re: Trans Fats affecting ovulation?

  • Actually yes, my ob/gyn really stresses this a lot in pre-conception meetings.  A lot. Interestingly though my RE didn't give it a whole lot of support.

  • I eat a lot of junk food now, but honestly I really think diet affects fertility and have posted about that before.  I stay away from artifical sweetners in fact my dr doesn't recommend in pregnancy but especially when TTC.  IVF stuff says no caff, no alcohol, no artificial sweetners.

It is hte first thing I told my friend who is having issues conceiving - no diet coke.  Yeah plenty of ppl on here do that but they are 26 and if you are an AMA you need every edge you can get.

I usually eat a lot of organic foods and try to avoid transfats.

  • yikes, this is a scary list....

  • I'm sure it does affect ovulation.  I've been slacking lately (since the beginning of June Embarrassed), but I usually try to eat really well.  We eat mostly whole foods and any sweets/baked goods are made by me.  I don't do it for fertility, just for general health.

I will not go near artificial sweetener.  I was so addicted to it back when I was in my early 20s but haven't touched it (except for in gum) in over 6 years.
