Anyone have a problem with gaining weight during pregnancy?

I so did not have this problem with my DD.  I was the complete opposite.  I ate everything in sight & it showed Embarrassed  This time - I really do not have much of an appetite, have to force myself to eat.  I have gained a total of 6lbs so far at 15w4d.  I know to some this is nothing this early but it does have me worried some.  The MW did not seem too concerned so I am trying to not let it bother me at this time.  I am just curious if this is normal because for me it doesn't seem it.  Baby has looked good at the 8wk u/s & the 13wk NT scan.

How much have you gained so far?

Also if this is not your first pregnancy - how much did you gain in total in the past?

I gained 73lbs with my DD 5yrs ago!

  • By 15 weeks I hadn't gained anything.  I believe since then I have put on about 3-4 lbs.  It's a normal weight gain I think.

  • I'm down 10lbs from pre-pregnancy weight. I never get morning sickness, but tend to lose weight from eating 5 meals a day as opposed to 3 larger ones. This also happened with my first pregnancy-Im one of those people who puts on weight late in pregnancy. I didnt start gaining until 3rd trimester. I even had to get an ultrasound to check on baby due to my lack of weight gain since I'm not overweight. I ended up gaining 30lbs with DS and he was born at 10lbs.

  • it is completely normal to not be gaining at this stage. i've gained like MAYBE 2lbs and i am a few weeks ahead of you. my dr told me that the weight gain doesn't drastically happen, it's gradual, and you'll notice it more in the late 2nd trimester and 3rd. the average weight gain is between 20 -25lbs when you're pregnant, so it looks like your well on your way to a healthy pregnancy :)

  • I have lost 7 lbs so far since I have had awful m/s.  Now that I finally have an appetite again, I am sure that will change.

With my first pregnancy, I lost about 5 lbs in the first tri and gained a total of 20 by delivery date.

  • Everyone's normal is different. At 11 weeks I had lost 2lbs and have a feeling it will be even more when I go back in next week. I gained 12lbs with DD#1 and only 2lbs with DD#2.

  • I lost 20 lbs from my pre-prego weight. Was at the doctor for the 13w check up, he says everything is fine but that he would like the loss to slow down but would except if I lost 10 more pounds over the next 27 weeks in total. That would drop me from 250 to 220, I am going to guess that unless things change I will lose more than that. I have no appetite and must force myself to eat. I am not sick just not hungry, but he says not to worry the appetite will pick up.
  • In my first pregnancy I didn't gain a single pound until I was 30 weeks along. I have diabetes, though, and it wasnt well controlled, which results in weight loss (or lack of gain).

  • As of yesterday im down 7 lbs.  I eat a ton right now and was shocked to see I was down 2 more lbs from 4 weeks ago.  But I have been trying to eat more fruit then crackers or things like that.  But im eating at least every hour if not more.  He was fine with my eating and he does not care if I keep losing weight (im over weight) as long as the baby is right on track.  Once the baby measues to small he will change my diet or what im doing.  Not much to change I have not been to the gym in 2 mos because of morning sickness and eat a ton and I crave anything with sugar.
  • had trouble with weight with every pregnacy and always put on 5 of what I put on in the last month.So far i'm -6. Baby #1 gained 20lbs (8lb 6oz baby),#2 18 lbs (10lb 3 oz baby), #3 22lbs (8lb 3oz).
  • I've lost about 6lbs since my pre-preggo weight.  I was working out more before but I got pregnant but haven't been as active in fear of another miscarriage.  I'm sure that has something to do with it.  I do eat a lot more often but not necessarily more.  I seem to eat every one to two hours.  I expect to start putting on that pound a week like I'm supposed to soon.  Like many others I'm not always hungry though.  I won't skip a meal but I might not eat as much.  It just seems that when I get hungry nothing looks appealing.  I hope that changes soon too.  If the doc says your ok with your weight I'd try to not worry so much...I know it's really hard to not worry though!
  • I also gained a ton with my first (65 lbs!) and still hadn't lost all of it when I got pregnant with this one.  So far I've gained 8 lbs and my doctors are totally fine with it.  Like you though I am so worried about gaining like I did before.  Six pounds is such a normal amount, I wouldn't worry.  I think that the most important thing is just making sure you are taking good care of yourself so that you end up with a healthy baby.
  • Ive gained 4 pounds and I'm 17 weeks pregnant tomorrow

With DS I gained 37 pounds total

  • 6 lbs is actually on the high end for 14 weeks. I think the average is closer to 1-5 lbs at that point. So no worries.

  • I was told today that if I hadn't gained by the third trimester they would start to look at my diet.
  • Thanks all - I do feel better {{hugs}}.

SBear12 - that is an awesome tracker - thank you.  I have it saved on my favs to keep me up to date as I go along.

It is so funny because I obviously did not care too much with the first pregnancy.  I probably had put on 10-15lbs by now with DD.  I just went with the flow.  The further along I got the more comments I was getting from the nurses.  Thankfully DD was perfectly healthy at 6lbs 9oz.  Fingers are crossed I still do everything right for this little one.
