Driving home from Tahoe, I got pulled over for speeding on 80, and got a warning. However when the officer asked for my registration, I had forgotten to put it back into my glove box when I got our car refinanced. The officer wrote me a ticket with the registration-not-being-in-the-glove-box marked as a correctable offense. He said I could take it into any police station with my proof that the registration is now in the glove box and they would sign off on it.
Yesterday I got a yellow notice from Sac Court telling me I have a due date/court date of Sept 3. I read the notice and on one side it says I have to appear in Sac on that date to pay my fine, but on the other side it says if the violation is considered correctable, I just have to submit payment. The difference between amounts if I didn't correct it, and did is about $170. I am going today to get the ticket signed off on, but I'm confused. How do I send proof that the ticket is corrected? Do I still have to go to Sac? I called the number on the notice, but the office was closed (at 2pm for some reason).
I'm hoping either someone who's been through this, or our wonderful PKW can help me...I'm really confused. Thank you.
Re: NBR: Fix it ticket?
I got one of those tickets for not having my license on me. I got it signed off by a police officer showing proof of having my license and then went to the court house, stood in the longest line ever and just paid my fine and showed that I got it signed off (I was also talking on my cell phone). I think they still charge you a processing fee. I went before my "court date".
Seriously, I think getting a ticket is the most confusing thing EVER!!!
Hopefully someone can give you a concrete answer... don't always take my word for it.
Somewhere on the yellow notice it should tell you how to pay the fine and whether or not they will accept proof by mail for correctable violations.
What do I do if I get a "fix-it" ticket?
If a police officer gives you a "fix-it" ticket on a "Notice to Appear," the "yes" box will be checked below "Correctable Violation" on the front of the ticket. The police can give you another ticket if you don't fix the problem immediately. When you fix the problem, get an authorized person to sign the "Certificate of Correction" part of your ticket.Take the proof of correction to the court and pay the dismissal fee before the deadline. You can check your ticket or contact the court to see if the court accepts proof of correction. The court will then dismiss your case and it won't go on your record. How do I pay my traffic ticket? When the court has decided your fine, you can pay in person at the court or by mail. Check the ticket, courtesy notice, or court Web site to see whether you can also pay by phone or online. If the court allows payment online, you can click hereThank you all for the input and advice. I called the number on the notice I got in the mail and the lady I spoke too said the only reason I would have to go to Sac was if I was contesting the ticket, which I'm not. To show proof of correction, I would need to have the ticket signed off by a police officer in my area after showing that I have corrected the violation, and then send the actual ticket (signed) to the court address with the smaller penalty fee. I was getting pretty worried. The last thing I need is to take time off work to get this straightened out in Sac. Whew.
Again, thank you.
