TTC after 35

So Confused

So this month has been crazy.  It is my first month to chart and my temps were crazy.  AF also visited for 10 days.  I have taken OPK for 9 days and they have all been negative.  I had good CM a few days ago and really thought that I was going to O, but it was negative.  At this point I am so confused and don't know what to do.  Would you keep testing twice daily until AF whenever that is?  I don't mind the testing, just the expense of testing.  I tested last month and got a positive for two days.  Can you not ovulate some months?

Still very new to all of this.  Sorry for all the questions.  Any help would be appreciated.

Re: So Confused

  • I think it is possible to not ovulate every month.  I would probably keep testing until you get AF, just so that you know for sure what's going on inside (as much as you can tell by these tests anyway).  Are you seeing an OB or RE yet for guidance?  I'm assuming not, but I guess you never know.  I agree about the expense, they aren't cheap.  :(

I kept getting a positive this past cycle.  At least for 4 days I did, then I stopped testing since I figured I had ovulated.  I am so ready for an RE to suck all my blood out and tell me EXACTLY wth is happening inside my body.  Hang in there and just know you are so not alone.

  • From what I understand the LH surge itself is for less than a day but, depending on your LH levels in your pee, it can show on the stick for several days after (high levels) OR disappear the same day (lower levels).  The FIRST day you see it is important because that is actually the beginning of the surge when you O not just seeing the residual LH afterward.  BUT if LH is lower (and I don't think that is a bad thing for you physically) you could MISS seeing the surge because it could come and go between testing times.  That is why some doctors recommend OPK testing more than once a day around your projected O time.  It could be you did O and missed seeing it on the stick.  Tracking temps and other signs definitely helps.

And I hope this info helps.  -Pix

  • Temping is probably the best indicator of O and it is free!  If you feel like you are spending too much money on OPK's (yes, they can be expensive) try to temp for a cycle or 2.  This will help you get an idea of what day you are Oing each month and then you can always just use OPK's to confirm it.

If you haven't yet check out fertilityfriend.com, it's a great website to help you chart and give you info on how to do it.  The first month temping is usually a little off...just remeber to take your temp at the same time every day after at least 3-4 hours of continuous sleep and do not get out of bed before you take it.

    Hope that helps!
