what hours do you work?

i posted last week about asking my boss to go back to my pre-maternity leave schedule which was working one day a week from home.

he responded tuesday evening and said he will not accomadate it - that employees are required to be in house m-f except field based employees. this is a load of crap because two other girls in our dept work from home one day a week. ugh, the politics of working for an enormous company. management did change while i was on leave, so i think this is part of the reason that it was okay before and not now.

he did say he would be flexible with my hours, but i already work 7-3:30. i asked what he would allow me to work and he wants me to propose something.

so i am curious what hours you work - and if any of you have flexible hours - what are they?

thanks!!

Re: what hours do you work?

  • basic m-f 9a-5p - no work at home option (paralegals before me, abused the privilege to the point where it's no longer an option).

when dd starts school, i'm inclined to see if i can start working 8-4 instead.

  • The days that I'm in the office, I work 7:30 to 4:00. I work at home one day per week, and I usually sleep in a bit and hang out with DS in the morning, so that day it's more like 8:30 to 5:00.

Fortunately, they're pretty flexible with me and as long as I put in my 8 hours.

I'm sorry they want you back in the office M-F! Boo.

  • So sorry they changed the policy, that sucks!

I work from home on Mondays, am in the office 8:30-5 Tuesday - Friday.

Could you see if you could work a 9/80 or a 4/10 schedule (not sure if that would work for you?

  • I work M-F, 8am to 5pm.  No felxible hours for me.  We just don't have enough staff to allow me to work flexible hours.  However, they are generally really good about letting me have time off whenever I need it.  I do sometimes wish that I could work some flexible hours.  I would even take a pay cut if it meant more time with the LO, but alas it is not possible.  Good luck with your request.  I hope they can accommodate what you want.
  • I work in an office M-F 9-5.  If I need to be at home for my kid, I can say I'm "working from home" but really that means I'm checking email or attempting to do something remotely that isn't super feasible.

My job is doing PR.  That means I need to be present to answer my phone, and consult my colleagues.  Other people in our company "work" from home regularly but no one in my department does.  In my department, if you want a day off or to be at home for some reason, you take the day off.

  • I used to work 7:00am-3:30pm, but I have a new position now and my boss prefers I work 8:30-5pm.

  • I worked and will go back to a 9/80 schedule.

    I work 7:45 to 5:15 M-Th and F 7:45 to 4:15 with every other Friday off.

  • ohhhh i have never heard of a 9/80 schedule - i will have to look into this!

    thanks for responding girls!!
