BF moms--vit D supplement?

Do you give your LO vitamin D supplement? I am hearing conflicting directions on this (wait until 2 months or start now). I asked my pedi this earlier this week, and she said go ahead to give DD (3 weeks old tomorrow) the supplement now, but I keep on forgetting to go get it at the store.

Re: BF moms--vit D supplement?

  • My pedi told us to start now.  Most of it stays in her mouth. :)

  • We were giving it to DS nightly, but he would wake up around 4am with TERRIBLE gas pain. We tested it out, and only on the nights that we gave him the drops did he have gas... so we stopped giving it to him.

However, to answer your original question, our Pedi gave it to us at his 2-week checkup.

  • We've been giving him Enfamil Tri-Vi-Sol since he was 1 month. We would've have given it to him sooner, but I forgot to ask about it.

  • We've been giving LO Tri Vi Sol since our pedi told us at her one week appointment.
  • I know my situation is a little different, because I have a preemie, but he has been on multivitamin and vit.d since he was two weeks old...not sure if that helps you any?
  • I never asked, and my pedi never mentioned it. Her 2 week appointment was this morning.

    This.

  • We started by week 2 - he spits it out about every third time ;)

  • My doctor said to start at two weeks.  We got the drops at Whole Foods.

  • We started it at 2 wks.  She hates it.  It smells gross so pedi said it tastes gross, too.  Dr said to put it in her 1 bottle of pumped milk a day since she doesn't like the taste on it's own.  I haven't done it every single day b/c we take a lot of walks outside so she gets small amounts of sun.
