so when they refuse to drink milk from sippy

do you cave & give bottle or just refuse & hope they get the picture?

Mine have transitioned to 100% milk. THey are still on 4 bottles a day and I want to try to transition the daytime bottles to sippy/straw cups first. DD will drink maybe 2 oz milk from a cup (sippy or straw) and then just plays with it and DS will not drink any once he takes a sip & realizes it is milk & not water. They both will drink water from it so it isnt an issue w/ the cup itself. I'm not sure if I should just not give it to them any other way or if I should give them the bottle after a certain amt of time. They go back to daycare in 2 weeks & are supposed to be off bottles for the young toddler room.

Thoughts?

  • If they have weight issues, then I'd cave and give them the bottle.  Otherwise, no bottles, just keep offering milk, trying sippy, or regular cups, or straws.

  • Reagan would take water from a sippy, but refused the sippy for milk.  At her 18 month appointment I confessed to the pedi that she was still drinking from a bottle for milk.  He said that it is more important to get her off the bottle than if she is drinking milk.  He said to offer her milk in the sippy and if she refused, then just drop it and not offer it again for a couple days.  He went so far to say that if she still refused it after trying this multiple times, to not even offer it for three months.

So we went cold turkey.  She cried for two days for her bottle, but by the third day she was drinking all liquids from a sippy.

I'm confused by this- he said to drop the milk altogether & just give water or to drop the sippy cup & not try it again (which doesnt sound like it is the case)?
