Now that I blacked out her windows more-

DD is sleeping later than the d@mn cat.  I love our new cat, but when I finally finally finally "could" sleep past 5:45am, our cat is scratching to wake us at 6am or earlier. Alana is just now stirring in her crib, and I have been up for 50 minutes.

Any tips on how to get cats to sttn?

  • Great! How did you black out the windows? I think that would help us too.

Ha!  Come on over to see our ghetto-fabulous version of black-out windows.  Cardboard and dark fabric to seal the edges of the real "black-out shades".  (Black out shades were from Home Depot, but didn't do the job).  :(

  • Yay for kids who sleep in!!!  It is SUPER annoying when the animals wake up but the kid is still sleeping.

If the cat is waking you up so you can feed it, a bowl with a timer on it might help.

    Something like this: https://www.petfoodexpress.com/petfood/default.asp?pageid=23&Section=Coupon&pid=2355

  • Oh, I so feel your pain!!!!!

We're about to go the automatic feeding bowl route too.

The cats start in on me at least an hour before their normal feeding time. And they normally get fed at 5am! Ugh.

  • Do you know why she's waking up? One of our cats is extremely food motivated, so we schedule their feedings at 4:00PM and about 12midnight (right before DH goes to sleep) so that they aren't waiting for a feeding in the morning.

If it's just for play or attention, that's tougher and you'd probably have to work on teaching her about physical boundaries (where she can and can't play.) If that's the case, let me know and I can consult my book for suggestions again.

  • I am pretty sure it is to play.  Her food bowl is empty in the morning, but when we add food, she is still more interested in us vs. the food.  Maybe I will ask DH to give her more than usual at night before he goes to bed, to see if that makes a difference first!  Thanks for your tips!

I wish I could find my Cat book, but in the meantime- I may consult w/ our resident cat and bunco expert, NCSW!  :)  Muah!

  • Hehehe

  • Yay for Alana sleeping in! I thought I would never say this, but I've been leaving a bit of the boys' shades open so that light will peek in early and wake them up (in hopes that they will have some time to wake up and not be so grumpy--something they got from their not-a-morning person mommy). ;)
  • LMAO!  Love this Janet!  :)

WOW!  Has it helped?  I can see this happening down the road too.  At least the rooms won't look so shabby w/ boarded up windows.  :)
