TTC After a Loss

Clomid and Ovulation

I took two doses of 100 mg of Clomid and had vision problems. The doctor told me to stop taking it immediately, which I did. Since then, I have been having hot flashes and feeling tired. I suspect it is from the Clomid.

I also have not detected an LH surge yet (which I usually have on CD 12). Can Clomid cause you not to ovulate? Or, can clomid cause you to ovulate late? I also have no symptoms of approaching ovulation, i,e cervical mucous (which I know is another side effect of Clomid). It seems odd that I would have all these symptoms after taking only two doses.

Another question, how long does Clomid stay in your system?

Re: Clomid and Ovulation

  • I don't know all that much about the side effects of it, but it sounds like your body did not respond well to it. If your dr had you stop taking it for those reasons, I guess it could throw your O off.

What does your doctor say about those things? It sounds like something he/she may need to know..

  • I just called the doctor.  They said to come in if I have not ovulated by Monday.  I am on vacation so I will have to go in later in the week
  • I'm not sure exactly, but I'm pretty sure clomid can stay in your system through the end of your cycle, but that's usually on a whole 5 day dose, so I don't know if your situation.  Everyone reacts differently to clomid, some have extreme side effects, and some have none.  My only side effects have been more tired and no cervical mucus.  Your body just might be more sensitive to it.  I know clomid can cause you to ovulate earlier, but bc you stopped taking it after 2 doses, then that might have screwed your O date up.  I would call your dr and ask if/when you should expect to O.  Also, are you seeing an RE?

  • Clomid can delay ovulation.  To improve the quality of your cervical mucus and uterine lining, pomegranate juice and pineapple cores are very helpful.  I'm not sure what Clomid's half-life is once you d/c taking it - call your doctor.

It's entirely possible that you would have more symptoms if you were a poor responder.  But your side effects sound serious, so I would definitely get back in touch with the doc.

  • Hot flashes and tiredness are normal s/e normal for Clomid.  Vision problems can happen, as well, but you should contact your doc about it.

I (so far) only ovulate with Clomid's help.  I have ovulated on CD 13, CD 14, and CD 15 with it.

I'm not sure how long Clomid stays in your system.  I think I read a couple of weeks.
