Star Ratings

So I'll admit it - I haven't been around much and one of the reasons is I really hate the star rating system.  It sucks.  I got one-starred a few months ago, and even though part of me feels like part of an elite club, a bigger part of me feels like it's negatively impacted my desire to participate on this board.

It's not so much the actual one-starring as it is the constant reminder that there are lurkers out there who don't participate and who may or may not have my best intentions at heart as I know my real friends here do (and by "real friends," I mean anyone who posts here with good intentions, not just those I've met IRL).

 So I complained, and here is the response I got from Bump Eileen (or whatever her name is):

Hi B,

Thank you for your feedback. We are currently going through a site
redesign and will be removing the star ratings after it has launched.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

I asked when the redesign will be complete and she said they didn't have a timeline.

This may not be new news for most of you, but I felt better knowing at least they are aware of the problem.  In the meantime, I hope those of us who are bothered by the rating system can come back out of our shells a little and liven this place up again!  I know I promise to try.

    agreed. It's the reminder that not everyone is nice and friendly.

    It's too bad they can't get rid of the ratings ASAP (seems an easy thing to break) and re-designs always scare me because they seem to break more than they fix and then they never seem to fix what they broke (search function...jeez, how long have we been waiting for them to fix that?  3 years?)

    I hope they figure that shizz out soon b/c it SUCKS.  I think they should tell us whose bright idea the star ratings system was in the first place and bring us their head on a platter!  Idiots.

    Thank you for posting this!!! I almost quit this site (I definitely took a break) because of that. I know that you guys are an awesome support system for kid and non-kid related issues but it only takes one rotten star rating to spoil it. I'm glad to see that they are getting rid of it. Thank you for speaking up!

    Uggh.  I sent a similar message to nest anni in October 2009 (linking to an a hurtful one star post)... here was her response...

    Hi,

    We are looking into removing this from the site in the near future, but I do not have an exact date.  Thanks for your feedback.

    I'd be happy to complain, too, to try to get them to remove it faster. I know it keeps a lot of great people at a distance.
