Wedding Cake Question

I got married in December, and we froze our cake top. We put it in our deep freezer since we wouldn't need it anytime soon. Well my Hubby cleaned out our deep freezer and put the cake top in our normal fridge freezer a few days ago. I now have to look at it everytime I look for something to eat, I am dying for some wedding cake! The baby is due in October so that means I dont get any of the wedding cake while I am pregnant. I know I could go out and buy a piece but the place that made our cake is 4hrs away. It was also by far the best wedding cake I have had and I really want it specifically. Is it bad luck to eat your cake top before your anniversary, even if you dont eat all of it?

side note- I am already well aware alot of people don't do this superstition and alot of people find it gross.

Re: Wedding Cake Question

  • Cover it up with something so it's out of sight, out of mind. Then get a betty crocker cake. I don't know if it's bad luck, but it would be pretty sad for your DH and you to eat from that cake separately. I loved the symbolism of not only saving it, but cutting into it together again on our anniversary.

  • If it helps, my cake was fantastic at our wedding and after a year of being frozen...not even close to the same. I agree with PP, try and cover it up to see if that helps the temptation.
  • Since the deep freezer is now nice and clean, why not put it back in there?

One of his friends killed a deer so its not empty anymore :( I think ill buy some ice cream to put infront of it that way its another sweet item and maybe ill want that.... or ill get hubby in on breaking into it too.... Ill try hiding it first.

Our wedding cake topper was in my moms side-by-side freezer and in a box so I didn't think anything of it when I opened the freezer up.  Try that and putting ice cream in front of it and you should be able to last Stick out tongue

BTW our wedding cake top was delicious....not 100% compared to it fresh, but like 85%...nomnomnom!

  • We tried that, but we dont have a deep freezer and we were worried about it going bad or getting freezer burn.  So.. we ate it.  Were just going to get a small cake (thats the same) and eat it on our anniversary.

If your hubby is ok with it, Id just go for it.  I heard its not as good after a year anyway!

I hope you get to eat your cake or at least get something yummy instead!

  • There's no rule that says you HAVE to wait.  It's just tradition.  If your anniversary will come and you'll be dissapointed that you can't take part in that tradition, don't eat it now.  But if you'll be fine with there being no cake, go for it.  Or you can always have a bakery make a cake topper replica when your anniversary rolls around.  Lots of bakeries do that.
