My DD just had her one-year check up, she turned one on July 27th, so two days ago. She's healthy, happy, active, meeting her milestones (nearly walking, has a few words, shakes her head yes and no, points at things she wants, etc.) The thing is, she's TINY. I don't mean just in a low percentile, I mean she is officially the smallest one year old our practice has ever had. She's 27 inches long and weighs 14.8 lbs. My pedi says she doubts there is any reason to be concerned, but did suggest we go see a pediatric endocrinologist to rule out "big things" that might be an issue.
So, I am just wondering if anyone out there has had this happen to them. Or even know someone who did. She's just SO tiny - about the size of a six-month old. She was 6lbs2oz at birth, so small but not off the charts tiny.

"Someday we will look at our babies and know it will be worth it. If it was easy, we would not have had our babies, the babies we were meant to have." From Amy052006
From a similar birth size (6lb 1oz) Megan was 29 1/4", 17lb 10oz with a 47cm head at 1yr.
At 6 months, she was only 12lbs 6oz, and that was just doubling her birthweight which is what they look for.
She's always been in the 3-5% pretty much since birth. At her appt her doctor heard a slight murmur and because of her small size since birth, they sent us to a heart specialist. They did x-rays but everything looks fine. He called it an innocent murmur and said that she is just a petite girl and he wouldn't be concerned by her size.
It's been 7 weeks since her 1yr appointment and now she's only 18lbs 3oz. Her weight gain has definitely slowed down as she's gotten more active. (She was averaging about a pound a month) She's been walking since just before her birthday.
Babies fall into all different ranges and there wouldn't be a curve if they didn't. Ours just happen to be on the little end of things. I'd much rather be in my shoes than a friend's who's little girl who was always over 99% and actually was seen by a dietician by the age of 2 and put on a diet.
Megan Hope 2yrs 3months
E was 16lbs at 13 months (his 1 year appt)
he has since caught up, he is 28lbs and 33 inches now, at 2.
My girls are 19 pounds and I think barely 28". Not exactly the same, but certainly not high up on the percentiles. They're usually at 10th for weight and 25th for height.
Is she on the chart or waaaay off it?
My best friend's cousin's daughter is 7.5 months and can still wear 3-month clothes. She's tiny and basically hates eating and hates formula. She's normal, developmentally, but they're doing testing to see if there's some kind of physical issue (thyroid, hormones, etc.).
My DD was 16 lbs 11 oz at her 12 month checkup and 28.5 inches long. She is in the 1st percentile for her weight. She was 5 lbs 2 oz at birth (and she was full term). Our pedi hasn't been worried at all, both hubby and I aren't huge people. And she is meeting all of her other milestones and happy and healthy.
She is just my little tiny munchkin
I am glad that you posted this. We are going through the same things right now with our little one. She is 21lbs and 32 1/2 inches and she is 2 1/2. The dr was kinda an a-hole about it at her weight check last week (we go every 6 months).
He mentioned taking her to a specialist now or we could wait for 6 months. We decided to wait. She has exceeded all the milestones, etc and is very active and healthy. She was 6-12 at birth so not too tiny, but DH and I are not big people. My grandma was 5 foot (with heels) and my mom is 5 foot as well. I really am trying not to get to worked up about it, but it is hard not to.
It really helps to see others with tiny ones too!
