Update

Hi gals! Here's an update on my emergency appointment earlier this week...

UTI with some amniotic fluid leaking, but not enough to cause concern. I am no longer allowed to lift anything over 12 pounds (laundry weighs 12 pounds, right???) and I have to lay low for a couple weeks but other than that, all is well. Whew!

On a happy note - we've decided to have a co-ed baby shower. DH really wants to be involved and he sweetly asked if it would be okay for him to intrude on the party. Intrude??? Heck, invite all the boys! We are hosting our own baby shower....I know, kind of odd, but the guest list is already up to 72 people and we just cannot bare to let someone host the shower for us if we are going to have that many people in attendance.

"Thanks for opening your home, your bank account and your fridge to host our baby shower! Is 120 people too many?" hahaha no way. We just can't do that to our friends.

Our original thought was to use the shower as motivation to get our backyard in shape. We bought our home one year ago and have neglected the HUGE backyard until recently but the more we do, the more we realize it is going to take a lot more work and time than we thought. We want to have our shower on September 25th so we are scrambling to find a place to have it...any ideas? We are doing a dessert bar for food....no way are we going to try to cook for 70+ people. That's a small wedding!

Re: Update

  • First of all, I am glad to hear all is well with you and your little one!

Wow.  That is a lot of people.  Is there some type of event center in your area that just lets you rent the building and cater in?  I know that when I was planning my wedding I found quite a few banquet facilities that basically just offered the building.

  • So glad you're okay!!!! It's weird to explain to DH that I'm thinking about someone I don't even know in person....I'm always like...okay you know that girl who lives here and is this pregnant? WELL of course he doesn't but he always says yes and politely listens, lol.

As far as the baby shower...rental fees can be expensive for halls. Check with local churches...they sometimes have a space for rent and it can be pretty cheap. One I checked was only 50 and another 100...both nice spaces too.

A VFW hall or something is an option....but I know they can be like 300+ to rent.

Also, do any of your friends live in nice apartment or condo complexes? They usually have a nice clubhouse to rent and the few that I checked for different things were only a deposit that you got back.

    Good luck!!!!

  • I'm so glad you're okay as well - take the opportunity to do lots of Bump-ing and internet shopping! ;)

I have no words of wisdom re: a baby shower as I'm so far removed from that part of US culture...

  • I am very happy to hear an update on how this are for you, we have been wonder how you are all week. I would suggest a community hall for that many guests, It would be hard to have a shower with so many people in your home.

  • I'm so glad you and baby are fine. You had us all worried and a lot of us were asking if there was any news on how you were doing.

  • So happy to hear that all is well with you and the baby!
  • <3 I am very glad to hear that all is going well for you! I posted last night to see if anyone had heard any updates, since I was truly concerned, as most of us were. But, again glad you and baby are okay! Get lots and lots of rest, even if you have to take advantage of it Wink

As far as the baby shower goes.... good luck, and hope you have lots and lots of fun. Maybe you can try a banquet hall, or a public park? I'm def not good at brainstorming ideas.

    ????????
  • I'm really happy to hear that everything is okay!

What about a park?  You were planning to have it in your backyard anyway so a park (pavilion) could be a similar vibe and with all of the people you're having it will be casual and fun and you won't have to set anything up or take anything down.  They're usually really inexpensive to rent as well.

  • I'm so happy to hear everything is OK now with you and your little one!  As far as the shower goes, we had my sister's bridal shower at a park near her home and we could have easily fit 70+ people in there. Rental was about $150 or so and it had a kitchen for all our food and included the tables and chairs. All we had to do was decorate and bring food. Some family and members and the bridal party brought food and it was pretty economical by the end.  It was also nice because it had outdoor space for an even larger party, if we had needed it. Good luck with your planning!

  • I'm so glad to hear that you and the baby are ok.

As for the shower, look for an event type of place to have it. We're having my shower at the church hall. Maybe look at that as an option?

  • I am so happy that you and LO are OK! I hope it isn't going to be too rough not being able to lift over 12lbs. I have trouble with my OB's rule of nothing over 25lbs.

  • So glad you and LO are ok!  PPs have put out some good suggestions, I'd check local park pavilions if you want outside and churches or community centers/park buildings if you want to do inside.  GL!
  • Ah, I'm so relieved! I actually had a dream about you the other night (I hope this doesn't come off as creepy) that I called my doctor and asked if you were ok, because you went to him as well.  And he said, yes, but she needs to rest now.  It was so weird!

As for shower, see if you can get a restaurant to give you a room, and obviously they will cater themselves.  A lot of times you can get the per person cost down if you promise to bring in a lot of business on a day when they usually aren't busy, like a Wednesday night or something.

Or, if you want to stick with dessert bar idea, use your home and have a baker just cater!

  • I'm glad everything is ok with you and the baby.

DH and I might do the same as you and your DH.  Our guest list is going through the roof and we feel bad having our sisters pay for it.  Hmm, do you have a community center or church hall you can rent out?

  • ::Sigh of relief:: I'm SO glad that everything is OK with you and LO!

As far as the shower, PP had some good ideas... Churches, EMS buildings, stuff like that I would definitely check out :-)

Have fun, sounds like your shower will be a blast!

  • I'm so glad to hear that you are okay. We were worried around these parts. Take care of yourself and little man!

GL planning that shower- sounds like it will be quite an event. I second what PPs say about renting a room.

  • So glad to hear that everything is well!!
  • I'm glad your baby is doing ok!

I love the idea of a co-ed shower & a lot of MH's friends asked us this past weekend if that's what we were going to do. But, i just know my more traditional aunts & mom would freak if they showed up to a huge party like that. LOL

Around here, it's pretty standard for showers to be at restaurants or catering halls.

But I love the idea that others mentioned of having it at a park. GL with whatever you decide!!
