Naps...

So the Little Kiddo started pre-school this week.  He goes from 12:15 to 3:45.

I pick him up and bring him back to my house until it's time to pick up the Big Kiddo from his after school program at 5 but no later then 6.

My problem is that the Little Kiddo is getting about an hours nap now, instead of the close to two hour one he was taking.  And when you wake him up he is hysterical crying, can't get him stop and today he threw his granola bar at me while I was driving.

I know he probably needs some time to adjust, but I am just not sure what to do to make the adjustment easier on him.  I haven't had a chance to talk to his mom yet as she is working a late shift tonight. But I just wanted some opinons from other moms.

Re: Naps...

  • How old is he?  Sara started a schedule like that right after she turned 3.  She ended up dropping naps immediately and we just did quiet time or she was up forever. I'm not sure what would help.

  • When is he taking this one hour nap?  Before school starts at 12:15, or after he gets home from 3:45?  I can't imagine any sort of nap being an option with that school schedule.

And I feel your pain!  My 3 year old that still naps everyday will be starting pre-school in 5 weeks that is from 12:30 to 3:30 which means the end of naps - a hard stop to them.

  • He just turned 4 on Monday.  And the nap is after school, because he doesn't get up until like 8 am so it's kind of hard to get a nap in before school starts.

  • IMO, he shouldn't be napping that late in the day.

A schedule like that for me would mean the end of naps, and an earlier bedtime... about an hour earlier than whatever he's doing now.

Schedules suck, it's so hard.  We're going to have to go to a later bedtime once school starts because of my schedule and I know its not going to be easy on any of us.

    Good luck!

  • this is one of the main reasons we're not doing pre-school right now - it's smack dab in the middle of nap time and Ryan still needs his naps.  I would probably opt for quiet time rather than nap time and then talk to his mom to see how she wants youto handle it???
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • Yikes!  My 3 1/2 year old still naps from 12:30-3:30pm, so it wouldn't even cross my mind to put him in school at that time.  I would say drop naps all together and bedtime by 6:30pm.

Good luck, maybe his mom will have some insite!
