j/k. I feel just fine about Finn. Maggie too. I prefer more traditional/full versions of these names, but I wouldn't think twice of kids named Finn or Maggie.
I think a lot of people will ask you--what's Maggie short for? Finn's a nickname for what? But . . . if you don't mind fielding those questions, I think they're great names. Two of my favorites. We named one of our dogs Maggie (it's also my sister-in-law's nickname for Margaret; my husband named the dog after her; he's weird) and we have a cat named Finn. But it's not as if they're "pet" names, I think they're nice standalone human names, too.
I would only use Finn as a nickname (if it came naturally) for a longer name (Finnegan was a family name for us, so we considered that). I don't like it as a standalone name. I just think of a fish.

I have a co-worker named Maggie, it is not short for anything, that is her full name. She never has people ask what it is short for, and it fits her perfectly. The one thing she does hate though is people always say "My dog's name is Maggie."
Not loving Finn. I feel like it's too trendy and everyone's jumping on that bandwagon. I like Maggie as a nickname. I don't like it as the official first name.

My son is Finn (not his full name) and no one ever asks me what it is short for. I personally think it is better as a nickname, but I don't think it is the end of the world if that is the full name. I am annoyed at how many people are using it these days though

I like both, but agree that they are better as nicknames.

I also like names that are short on their own and don't have a nickname, Finn absolutely works as the full name.
Everyone always assumes my sons name Colt is short for Colton, and as "nicknames" people call him Colton or Coltraine. uh.

How do you know it's not short for anything?
Did you ask her?
