Just to go over the rules a bit. If you are a vendor/photographer you can post on the boards but you are not allowed to promote your own business. Either by flat out saying you are a vendor and giving a link to your business or by rec'ing yourself and not telling people you are a vendor.

You can not have a link to your business in your siggy or your blog

You also can not have your watermark on your pictures.

If others would like to rec you that used you that is fine.

If you are in any way making a profit off of rec'ing someone than it is not allowed.

So if you use a photographer and get a referral credit from that photographer because you referred a fellow nestie/bump girl to them is that considered making a profit on rec'ing someone??

Sorry but as a photog that has had pictures stolen and credited as someone elses, I will not be posting a pic that I took of my kid without a watermark. It's just not happening.

there's no place in the terms of use that states you can't have a watermark on your photos. That's crazy talk!

How come the people complaining are from other states? This is a local board, so why do you even care?

Frankly, the knot/nest has always been clear that vendors are not allowed to mention their business at all. So while it might not be spelled out that your business watermark isn't allowed on pictures you post, they do state that you're not allowed to have your business name on your signature or profile. Isn't that what a watermark does. How is that so crazy/asinine? And if you're worried about your work being stolen, then you probably shouldn't post it.

Also, I don't think she is saying watermarks in general are against the rules. (ie: a watermark with your nest name or something to that effect) But I do think watermarks with your company's logo are the "illegal" watermarks, because they are promoting your photography business. There was a big discussion on this on one of the other boards several months ago and that was the agreement I believe?

I will get it cleared up by the bump "gods" but no you can not have a watermark that refers to your business name. You can have a watermark that says Do not copy, your user name (if it is not your business name), or whatever else u want it to say. It can NOT be a watermark that in any way refers to your business name is what I am saying. Should have been more clear on that.

I have a watermark on my siggy pic but it doesn't refer to a business that I make money off of. In no way!

These boards are not to be used for free advertising and having a watermark of your business is free advertising.

But how is different than having a picture with someone else's watermark in it? If you go to a local photog and get pictures of your kid if you want to show them on here you HAVE to have the watermark or risk having them taken away from you via the contract you sign. Think of it as I'm hiring a local photog, it's just that that photog is me.

Because you are getting free advertising by doing that. You need to take it off. It is different bc I paid for those pics and in no way am I profiting from having them up. You are by getting people to google your business and maybe book you. I owned a wedding related business and I know it is VERY expensive to advertise on the knot/nest/bump but it is what it is.

The watermarks cannot be ones they use for their business. Please let me know if you see anyone with watermarks and I will let them know that it has to be removed. Thanks!

I'm surprised your photographer doesn't have a referral program. If she does then please remove the photos from your siggy because they break the rule.
