Injectables ?

I am so excited about starting my next cycle!

I am curious, for those who have done injectable IUIs before, how many follies did you get and (if you remember) what doses where you on? How did that compare to follie counts on Clomid or Femara? How many follies were too many for your RE?

With Clomid I only ever had 1 follie, but they usually responded pretty quick, I never triggered later than cd 12. I am curious to see if I will respond as quickly with Follistim. My RE said his max is 4 follies for me, but would prefer only two or three, so he will most likely start me off low.

Re: Injectables ?

  • Clomid I had 2 follies the first time, 3 the second. She wouldn't have let me move forward with the 3 follies if we didn't have MFI so I guess 2 is her cutoff in those cases.

First cycle on Follistim I had 1 follie and I was on 100iu for 6 days.

Second cycle on Follistim I had 3 follies and I was on 150iu for 8 days.

  • I had 1 follicle on clomid and responded fairly quickly. With injectibles (Gonal-f) I was a slow responder on 75iu. They upped my dosage to 150iu for one night to "jump-start" my ovaries and that did the trick. I had 3 follies and on clomid and injectibles I triggered on cd 12. I did injectibles from cd 3- cd 11 and the upped dosage was on cd 7.

    Good luck!

I took Femara 5mg days 3-7, Follistim 300IU days 7, 9, 11.  Day 12 u/s showed 2 follies one at 14 and the other at 12, therefore I had two more days of Follistim, days 12, and 13.  GL with your cycle :)

  • Great, its exciting to try a new treatment!  Lots of people have success with injectables.  I've taken Follistim for 3 cycles.  I had one follie, then two, then one again.  When I had two, I got a BFP that turned into a c/p.  I never really did respond to Clomid.  Femara I got 1 follie twice.  So, kind of similar to the injectables, but the quality of the egg has been better (more mature, etc) and I've had better levels on my b/w.  I've always been a slow responder to most of the meds, and it was no different w/injectables.  In fact, I responded even more slowly.  But my RE says that cycle days are basically out the window with injectables... they can raise/lower the dose as you go along (via the monitoring of course) and really manipulate the cycle that way.  My RE started me out somewhat low and then increased my starting dose each cycle, like yours plans to do.  Gotta watch out for over-response, as I'm sure you know.  My RE would want to cancel the cycle if I ended up with 4 or more mature eggs.

HTH; sorry for the wall of text!  I'm doing 4 things at once :-P
  • I haven't done an injectable IUI (this IVF may be converted) but with 3 days of 300 iu Gonal F and 4 days 375 Gonal F I only have 4 measurable follies (something like a 19, 15, 15, 14).

With 100mg of Clomid, I would only get one lead follie. Once I triggered at day 8 the other at 10 - I think.

Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
  • Clomid I normally either had no response of 1 follie.  Femara I had 1 the first time and none the second time I believe.  Injections I had 2.

  • My clomid cycles I usually had 2-3 follicles and was on anywhere from 50 to 200 mgs.  My 2 injectable cycles I  had 4-5 follies and was on 75 to 112 of Follistim.

Best of luck with your next cycle!  Glad to hear your extended break is over!

  • On Clomid I only had one primary follicle with a couple of smaller ones for the 2 mos I was on it.

With injectables I was on 100iu Follistim for the first 3 mos. I had 1-2 good sized follicles at trigger with a couple of smaller ones. My 4th mos was 125iu Follistim & I grew 4 good-sized follicles with 5 smaller ones & still ended up getting a BFN. My RE was concerned with triggering with that many follies & talked to me in detail about what the outcome could be. But according to my history the chances of all follies releasing an egg & fertilizing was small....obviously, based on the outcome.

    Wishing you lots of luck!

  • I'm really excited for you !!!

I haven't done Clomid, and the aim for my IUIs was a larger number of mature follies (both due to my age).

Here is a chart of my cycles to date.
