I had a very Italian classmate named Luciana (Lu-chee-ah-na) and have recently run into a Lucia (Lu-Chee-Ah) as well. My dog is named Lucy and we call her Lucinda, Lucille (and when we're really ticked at her Lucy-fur!)
Lucille! Love it! I wouldn't do just Lucy. That is a nickname, not a full first name.
I've heard this a lot, which is interesting because it never occurred to me as it would for a nickname like Katie. Lucy is actually one of the top names in the UK - just Lucy, on its own.

Lucy is short for...umm Lucy?
No, just kidding
We were going back and forth between Luciana/Lucia or Lucy, and we ended up picking Lucy.
One of my baby name books says that Lucille is actually a nn for Lucy. Who knows?
