i need gift ideas for a baby boy who is turning 1 this weekend....they have an older boy who is 4 so they already have a lot of stuff for both kids....should i just get them a gift card? i'd like something more personal/hand picked but at the same time they might be moving out of state soon and i don't want to give them anything too bulky......ideas?
(oh and i am looking at somewhere around the $50 price range)
ETA: just found out they are definitely moving now in Sept...

yeah this is what i was thinking. i asked the mom if he had a wish list or something and she said that he loves everything. so i'm not sure. i do like lori's idea of doing some small gifts for him and then a GC so the parents can get whatever they want w/the rest......

He loves everything, hmm, that is a tough one
But yes, Lori's idea was a good one because when the parent does pick something out he'll be super happy w/ it as well.

Yeah, I'm wondering...*when* will they know the difference?
I assume that you know the boy personally, so you might have an idea as to whether he would be actually be opening presents himself or not...if so, then maybe a gift would be better--I'd opt for a toy in that case. Otherwise, a gift card would probably be best, especially since they're moving soon. I'd vote for Amazon or Target
i like the gift card + a small gift! then you get the best of both worlds
I was buying a gift recently for a 6 mo old (whom I had only seen once since birth and erm, hadn't given a gift yet
) - I looked at puzzles and cloth books, and ended up going with a box set of karen katz books, and a floor puzzle of the solar system for his older brother (3 yr old). i wanted to try to find something they most likely don't have already, and decided to stick with classic/educational-type books and toys.
ooooh love the idea of the savings bond b/c these are the kind of parents who spend money if they have it and won't save it otherwise!

oh i like the savings bond idea.
same idea for us... we have been (tactfully?) steering people towards education savings account gifts for Jack. We have a payment coupon book that both sets of grandparents used for baptismal gifts
