Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is every baby born with blue eyes?

The other day I heard that every baby is born with blue eyes. Is this true? If so, how long until they change? (like if the child was going to have brown eyes).

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I actually feel kind of dumb just typing it, lol!

Re: Is every baby born with blue eyes?

  • Most caucasian babies are.

They are usually the color they will be at 6 months.

  • Not my DD, but as you can see from my siggy pic, we are Asian.  Her eyes were/are grey-tinged brown, but definitely were never blue.

Same here, I am half white and half black and my husband is white and our LO's eyes are a greyish color.  My husband has blue eyes though, so I am hoping her's turn blue!

  • First DS had blue eyes, now turned hazel.  Second DS born with dark brown and will continue to be that way, I'm sure!

DD has blue eyes, that haven't really changed at all yet. The chances of her having blue eyes were pretty small based on our eye colours and that of our parents and my siblings, but I'm thinking she may have beaten the genetic odds. But only time will tell!

    Thank You! : ) Your little guy is a cutie : )

  • I was born with black eyes, and still have nearly black eyes.  DH has bright blue eyes.  DS was born with blue eyes, and they keep getting brighter blue.  His are now brighter blue than DH.  Hopefully they stay that way, because he has dark hair like his momma :)

  • I am Italian, Slovak, and Polish, and I was born with brown, not the in-between color.  My DD was born with the in between color, and they are a clear blue now.  I hope they stay.  Her dad and I both have dark brown, and one of those websites where you can "predict" eye color gave us a 9% chance of blue, based on our siblings and grandparents.  Go recessive genes!  :)  I agree w/ BurnNurse, brown hair and blue eyes is so stunning!!!

My sister is a pediatrician, and she concurs that most babies' eyes are the color they will be by 6 months, but the color intensity can still change.  (i.e. bright blue may soften into blue-gray, etc.)
