1st Trimester

Do you know, Mrs "smarty-pants"?

Do you have that friend, who, respectfully, is not the brightest crayon in the box? But for some reason she thinks she is 10x smarter than you, and she has to have the last word, and right with every conversation..

Like I have PCOS, that's fine, but once I told her about it, she became an expert, and told me I was doing everything wrong about dealing with them, and that my doctor needed to perform more ultrasounds to help get rid of them..

 Seriously?

She then proceeds to tell me, as I am struggling with infertility, and pregnancy, that it's not the end of the world..

She says half way through her pregnancy.

Sorry we can't all sneeze, and get pregnant.

Ugh, sorry, it just totally pisses me off! Had to rant! Thanks for listening!

  • I had that friend, too.  When I told her I had PCOS, though, instead of trying to learn anything about it, she told me to "stop thinking about it" and "have lots of drunken sex" and I would get pregnant.  In the middle of her pregnancy.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

  • Yep I know her, she's my sister in law. My MIL won't tell her we're pregnant because she fears she will need to get prego to - she already has a child which she gave up and has this weird thing going on where she goes and sees the kid with the foster parents. And I don't want her to know because she will start giving me parenting advice/preganancy advice.....

  • It sounds like my SIL! This girl is seriously not bright AT ALL! One time, her family went to an Italian restaurant and she told the waiter that she needed to English menu because she didn't speak Italian. She couldn't understand the words like alfredo, fettucini, etc. And no, this was NOT when she was a little girl. Yet, when it comes to parenting she knows EVERYTHING and she insinuates that I know nothing and won't let me help babysit or anything. Yes, I know she has had 4 and I don't have any yet, but I am a teacher, I know how to watch a baby, I know how to dress, change a diaper, and give a baby a bath. It drives me nuts!

Yup. I know this woman and she is my SIL too. I love her dearly and I know she only wants to help and has the best of intentions, but she drives me crazy. Even more so now that I am pregnant with my first. She has an 8 year old son and believes herself to be the highest authority on pregnancy and parenting. Trust me, this is hardly the case. I talk to her about how I'm feeling about certain things (apprehension, worries, opinions, etc) and she always turns the conversation in to what her pregnancy was like and how she had it so much worse so I should just get over it and suck it up. When I complain about things but don't really expect an answer to the problem, she says oh well, you better get used to it. I'm just looking for a sympathetic ear, I know DH gets tired of hearing me *** and moan. lol Thank god for one of my besties who just had her first child 3 months ago. She's been great. My advice is to find the most supportive people in your lives to talk to and let the rest say whatever they want while you turn a deaf ear.
