We met with the adoption counselor from Catholic Charities. I know her through a friend of mine and we used to work together for a short period of time. I really liked her, but she mentioed a few other agencies...anyone familiar with them? They are:
Bethany, Children's Home Society, and Florida Baptist Children's Home. I am familiar with the last two for foster care purposes, but not for infant adoption and did not know price ranges, wait times etc. Anyone know any info??
Also, I was just curious how everyone financed their adoption? Thank you so much for any and all input!!!!
Re: We met with CC...
There is an online adoption group/listserve that had a few not so positive posts about Bethany... I'll pm you with this groups info so you can do a search of the posts...
Clarification-- these posts were about a single branch/location of Bethany.
We looked into Catholic Charities and Bethany. The deal with CC in our area is that they only work with one diocese. So the number of babies being placed really varies. When we went, they had over 100 waiting families and were working with maybe 3-4 birth moms. We figured our wait would have been 2-3 years. Just too long for us.
Bethany wasn't local for us, and I wanted a local agency. It is large and I've known people who have matched very quickly with them.
We paid out of pocket for our adoption. Payments (application, home study, placement fee) were scattered over the span of about 9 months, so that made it easier for us. I think we put the big placement fee on a low interest cc, and were able to pay it off quickly. We just saved as much as we could before we started with the agency. I was not cool with fundraising, but I did use the profits from a garage sale to help a little.
Can not help you with the agencies, sorry.
We paid for our adoption by not traveling for 2 years and we love to travel. Any money that we received unexpectally also when into the old vacation fund that was the adoption fund.
