Hello ladies! I just found out a really sweet client in my salon is a MFM that specializes in clotting disorders. Cha-Ching! Just what I will need someday. What's the difference between a MFM and an OB? Thanks : )

An MFM is a high risk specialist. Usually they interview their patients and only accept so many per month of delivery as their cases are a bit harder.
Also, not all MFMs deliver so you may need to do a co-care situation where an OB would be your main doctor and you would see an MFM in additional to your OBs care. The two would then coordinate your care and any issues that came up.
Thanks LCB! I knew you had a MFM and I was hoping you would reply!

My doctor is an MFM/OB so she will also deliver my babies. In fact, the whole practice is MFM/OBs. It's basically just a high risk specialist. I go to her every two weeks and get a quick ultrasound every time.

I'm in that co-care situation. I see the MFM for consults inbetween OB appointments and she then consults with the OB who will deliver me and see me for routine care.
I'm high risk b/c of clotting issues only and so the MFM is just there to monitor that and oversee my use of meds.
my MFM just monitors me because I'm old. But i'm okay with that. I am in a co-care situation. My OB will deliver me.
Dx: MFI, DOR, 9 Fibroids and homozygous MTHFR

My OB refers all her high-risk patients to a MFM for a consult. If they think you need to stay with them, they make that call.
My OB is very experienced and delivers multiples all the time (and handled me with my singleton and losing her twin), so I feel very comfortable staying with her.

I strictly see a MFM and she will deliver Kate.
