The SAHM Book Club Weekly Check-In

Welcome,

Our Book Club is open to anyone, at anytime, who would simply like to set a reading goal for the year, keep track of what they have read so far, read up on reviews of books everyone else is reading and make your own recommendations.  You can read whatever you want, this is not a traditional book club where we select & discuss a book as a group!

For anyone who'd like to participate in these weekly check-ins and join our Google Document Tracker, reply to this post with:

*Your 2010 reading goal ("X" number of books you will read this year)

*How many books you have read so far

*What you are currently reading

*Any books you'd like to recommend

Once you read the book that was on your "currently reading" list from the previous check-in or if you toss that book aside and switch gears, be sure to mention it in these weekly check-ins as that is how I update the spreadsheet.

Shout-outs and questions from me
  • Welcome, Harms80 !!!
  • Congratulations, Gatogrrl for being half-way to your goal!

    Hey ladies!

Been so swamped, I haven't been reading or really checking-in but I did finally finish Chasing Harry Wintston.  It was cute!  I'll write up a formal review on my blog this week.

I've moved on to The Kite Runner and I have to say that I am entranced!  I just can't put it down!

I'm still working on Unconditional Parenting and A Death in the Family.  Both are good, but with Parker's birthday party last weekend and some vacation time this week I think I'll be working on them for another week or so.

I'm still reading The Lovely Bones.  I have about 30 pages until I finish.  I have been a little crazed these last couple of weeks and haven't had as much time as usual to read.

I finished "Where the God of Love Hangs Out" by Amy Bloom.  It was pretty good.  It's a collection of interconnected short stories with some pretty interesting characters.  I'm now reading "Twenties Girl" by Sophie Kinsella.  Thought I'd take a break with some chick lit!

Okay, Invisible Man is a little heavy for summer reading.  I'm switching to Swimming by Nicola Keegan, very interesting so far because it starts from the POV of a baby.

I am still reading The Forgotten Garden  by Kate Morton and I really like it. So far it is a great book.

I hope to finish it soon as I have a few books from my favorite authors coming out next week. I also hope to re-read the last Harry Potter book before I see it in theaters. It more than likely wont happen but it is worth a try. lol

I read Hell Gate and really enjoyed it.  Since then I started three books (I'm nuts, I know!)- The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, Dead as a Doornail and Naked Economics.

I have FINALLY finished my 7th book of the year, The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich. Liked the beginning, liked the end, but the middle was rough. I wouldn't recommend it.

Next is A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick, which was recommended by a friend.

I finished 90 Minutes in Heaven, not so impressed. Now I'm moving on to A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick.

I finished Broken Flower  - pretty good in a crazy, VC Andrews sort of way.  I'm not quite sure what to move on to next.

I finished The Body Project and America's Women.

I'm currently reading I Brake for Tantrums.

I finished The Attachment Connection.  I don't recormmend--except as a skimmer.  It's very scientific/technical about how babies' brains develop and how important maternal attachment is, but it was hella repetitive and just had an annoying setup.  I did somewhat enjoy the latter chapters of the book, which are divided by age with charts of what babies and toddlers at each age are supposed to be doing, etc.  I got it at the library and will be returning it promptly!

But I started Paulette Jiles' Stormy Weather, and I like it thus far.  It's from the point of view of a little girl in Texas in the twenties, and it's really interesting.  I'm only a few chapters in as I started it only last night.  But I keep thinking about what I read, which is a good sign.  The writing is good.  I like to read about Texas, though I didn't enjoy living there much.  The book has some of the charm of Mary Karr's The Liar's Club.

nictel--I love Amy Bloom.  Did you read Away?  Sooooo good!  I'll have to get the collection you just read.
