We haven't had pro pics done of our kids, but our family is chipping in to get them done for Reed/Penny's birthday gifts. (Reed just turned 2, Penny is going to be 1).
I would try my local board first and then CL. If those failed me I would google family photographer + name-of-your-city and start looking through to find someone you like who is reasonable. Good luck!
I found one woman who charges $250 sitting fee. I like her work, but I emailed to find out her "a la carte" fees for prints and to see if she sells the files (I doubt it)...because if it ends up being $500 it's wayyyyyy too much.
$250 is already a stretch, hence me never getting pro pics done.
It would be great to find someone who isn't settled into the "formula". I have been looking and some people's portfolios are basically "set up shot, insert baby". Blech.
Re: How did you find your photographer for baby pics?
do you have a local nest or bump board?
i found mine from my local nest board - she's a nestie and amazing... there are a few other photogs on our board that are great, too.
sniff. another reason why I wished I lived in Canada. lol.

The Canada boards are useless for this.
I searched and searched but couldn't find a pro photog that I could afford, and so I went to Sears.
Good luck!
There is this woman, who used to post on the Canada board. She's currently having a session fee sale -- $100. She has not posted rates for prints.
I think she lives in H-town too.
