My one DD has been saying "da da" since 7.5 months old. Other DD "sings" and makes lots of noises but has yet to form a word sound like her sister.
When did your LOs start saying their 1st words??
Also, the DD who says "da da" also can crawl whereas my other DD still has yet to do it (she just kind of thrusts her body forth as she sits?!?)
I guess I am just "concerned" since my one DD seems to be making more milestones a lot earlier than other DD. Anyone else's LOs like this?? Will it even out over time?
Re: Different Milestones (1st Words)?
from what i understand, those milestones really vary depending upon the child. i asked my dr a ton of questions at their 1 year check up. she said that it i am worrying more because i am comparing them so closely since they are the same age. really, i was worrying for no reason. mine have differences that are a little less drastic, but they do things differently and at different times. so, i wouldn't worry so much! i think they will catch up!
there is a huge range of time for milestones - try not to compare them. I know it's hard.
Gray did a lot of things first- but then I realized that Gibby has also done quite a few things first, too- just not the "big" things like crawling and walking... but he clapped first, waved first, etc.
Griffin said his first word at 9.5mo... "cat" clear as day - in context. He barely talked until he was 2 y/o after that... so even an early first word means nothing.
I don't think the twins have really said first words yet --- i THINK Gibby has said "book" and "dog" but it's not that clear so I'm afraid to count it... and I'm not that concerned b/c I know that it will happen when they're ready. I'm much more laid back with the twins than I was with Griffin --- I had his speech screened right when he turned 2 b/c i was worried- the therapist basically said he was fine and just wait... sure enough, 2w later he exploded with speech.
2 of mine crawled at 9mo, the other at 10. Your babies have plenty of time.
Completely normal. DS started crawling at 8 months, DD at 10 months, she went from crawling-standing in 2 days while DS took 2 months to do it. Both babbled alot at that age, but no words, DD said her first word a few weeks ago and DS is still speechless.
I agree with a PP, that said that we are more aware because they are the same age and compare them easily. Mine have times where they even out and while DS has the bigger milestones, ie, crawling, DD got the pincher grasp, clapping, waving down first.
They're two different babies so it makes sense that they would hit milestones at different times. I know it's hard but try not to compare them to each other; just pay attention to whether they're "delayed" and could benefit from some early intervention.
That said, my boys did happen to start talking about the same time (right before 15m). They progressed at different rates--for a long time Will had a lot more words than Alex--but now it's evened out . But other milestones they have been 2-3 months apart on.
Just remember that even though they are twins, they are two different babies. And since they are together it is so hard not to compare.
With all that being said, Lauryn has been ahead in her milestones by a lot. But when Ava started doing certain things that lauryn had already done, I knew what to expect. I think it is totally normal for them to hit milestones at different times.
Nothing to be worried about.
