TTC after 35

why or why did I pee on the first response fertility test stick?

Since both my and my husband's insurance will not pay for any fertility testing, I decided it might be a good idea to pee on the first response fertility test stick on my CD3 with FMU. I did this, and, at first I was happy that my test line was lighter than the control line, which is supposedly normal. But after mucking around on the internet, I am now worried that my test line was not light enough-- or that these tests may not be particularly sensitive. I would assume that the lighter it is the better. Combine this with the fact that I have no idea what the reference sensitivity is (it is not published)-- I wonder if it is possible to have borderline to high FSH and still test okay via the pee stick. Am I being completely irrational?

I don't know enough about the tests - have you tried the website to see if they have any info? My RE wants your FSH to be under 10 and I've also heard people have different #s in different months.

  • Yeah, I did check their website-- they don't have any specific numbers for this particular test. It was only after I took the test that I googled and noted that people on other boards have also felt a little dissatisfied with the test, especially not knowing what the sensitivity is. Probably better ways to spend 20 dollars.

  • Do they have a customer service number? Perhaps someone there could answer your questions.

You might also want to try a pharmacist. They know a lot of stuff.

  • Here is what you get in response if you ask them what the control line means (re: sensitivity):

    Dear Ms. X:

Thank you for visiting our web site about the First Response? Fertility Test for Women.

The First Response? Female Fertility test is a test designed to detect the presence of FSH in urine. For this color matching test, the reference line is calibrated to help a woman assess her ovarian reserve (fertility potential).  In laboratory studies, the test is over 95% accurate.

The FSH levels used to calibrate the reference line are proprietary.

We hope you will visit our web site again at: WWW.CHURCHDWIGHT.COM for information about our company, products, history, and financial information.

This is totally obfuscatory (which I did tell them)! The test is 95% accurate-- but to what?!
