A Solids Question

When did you all start feeding your LOs whatever you ate instead of 1 or 2 ingredient "meals." Wondering when I can just puree what we're eating or with soft stuff just give bites. We had our 6 month appt and I was planning on asking this but as  usual forgot. My boys haven't had any allergies or problems with any food so far FWIW.

Re: A Solids Question

  • We started purees at 6 months and allergy tested all the foods that are Stage 1 and 2 before adding multiple ingredient things.  So for 3 days they ate sweet potatoes, then 3 days pears, then 3 days carrots, etc.  If they didn't have a reaction after being fed it 3 days in a row we assumed they weren't allergic to it.  Then we'd start combining already allergy tested foods.  So we would do sweet potatoes mixed with carrots.  I don't think we started giving bites of our food until they were at least 10 months old.  It took us a long time to get through a number of foods using those allergy rules.  We followed www.wholesomebabyfood.com for guidance.

  • you can do this whenever you feel comfortable.  Some people skip the purees and just start on table food.

Obviously stay away from milk, shellfish, nuts and honey.

  • I have 10 month old triplets and we are sort of doing it now.  Sometimes for breakfast we give them french toast, waffles or pancakes (no syrup though)- they LOVE IT!  They eat mostly everything, fruit cut up, veggies cut up etc.  What I usually do is give them left-overs from the night before.  That way if I need to cut things smaller or puree a bit with some liquid I have plenty of time to do so.

We did just take them out to eat and we didnt bring any of their food.  They all split a giantic meatball and ate some pasta.  Just ease into it so you feel confident that there wont be any choking issues- you'll also be more comfortable giving them table food.

WWW.weelicious.com   is also a GREAT website- tons of info. :)
