Connecticut Babies

For those having boys ..

This has to do with circumcision. I made the choice to go with it and get it done, but stupid me had watched a video of a baby boy getting it done, and the baby was in pure TOURTURE. It was so hard to watch, i had to mute it a few times, as well as go through the whole box of kleenex! The video was shot in 1988, and i know now they use pain medicine to help with it.

I had heard that you have to demand for pain medicine to be used, and your insurance company may not pay for it if pain meds were used. If thats the case, send me the bill, because i would pay a trillion dollars NOT to have my son go though that !

Wondering if anyone knows if Yale New Haven listens to your full on demands about pain meds during circumcision? I work there, not on L&D but in the cardiac ICU, and i know with any requests for pain medications, with limits to their schedule, we give it to them without questions. I know yale is all about pleasing patients and families, i just hope newborn babies are in the picture too.

Im going to ask when i have my tour, but i was just wondering ahead of time. After watching that video, i couldn't help but ask so many questions !

I would highly suggest you talk to your OB as well, they may able to answer the question & help you with any of your concerns.  I have three boys & all of my boys slept through the circ. & appeared to be in good spirits after!  But we have been through worse surgeries, so a circ seems like nothing to me!

But even if your son is circ'ed now, problems can still arise. My 2nd son needed to be recirc'ed at 2 yrs old.

  • i'm pretty sure if you want them to use pain meds you have to wait until he's 6 months old to do it and it has to be done by a specialist. We had it done, I didn't watch them do it but they gave him sugar water and tylenol and when he came back i fed him and he was settled within 10 mins. I felt awful though :-(
