Sacha as a short version of Alexander (very common in Russia).
We like the name Alexander but we don't like Alex. I also would love to have a European name because of my own background and there are a lot of boys named Sacha here but no girls.
But I also know that in the US, Sasha is more common for a girl and I don't want him to get teased, since that is where we will live most of the time. Of course, Alexander would be on the birth certificate.
Just interested in hearing some American input on this since here in Europe everyone thinks that Sacha is a normal name for a boy.
Thanks. ![]()

I have heard of Zander/Xander but I am not too fond of that. The reason I was looking for a short is because going by Alexander everyday seems too formal. I do know of Liev Schreiber's son Sacha. His name gave me the idea.
Just a nod to my European background WOULD be nice but DH already shot down the French spelling Nicolas (Nee-cola) as well as some other Euro versions of names.
I am off for now. My mom and I are leaving for Frankfurt now and tomorrow morning I will catch my plane from there back to the US. At least I scored a bulkhead seat for the 10.35h flight!
I like it and given that you are Russian people will "get it."
P.S. - I was thinking about you the other day. Did your DH ever get better after telling you that he needed space?
