Success after IF

He's here! Birth story...

We had a scheduled induction for early Monday night at 12:45am- because of being dilated to 4cm already and a family history of very fast labors...  We got checked in around 1am, sighed paperswork, very much in awe that there was no going back. Our LD nurse was great, very calm and cool, and she let us know that the on-call dr was on of the older, but most experienced MDs- that she would trust him to deliver her baby. Yeah! since I hadn't met him yet.

I had been having some smaller contractions at home prior to arrival, which I guess really did count as real ones according to their monitors. I got my first dose of antibiotics for GBstrep, regular fluids, and started on a low dose of pitocin somewhere around 2am. By 3am my back was really hurting, even though my abdomen didn't feel all that bad- so I got my epidural put in, and I loved it! No more back pain! At 4am exactly my water broke on its own- it was so unreal to feel! I felt the pop- then gush, and thought whew- we are on track to a vaginal delivery! With no pain, I could still feel/move my legs, all was well.

My Dr. came in to do his first check right after my water broke, and I was already at 8cms (this was around 4:30am). And then he says- I think we are going to have a change of plans... He went out to get the ultrasound machine- and low and behold- my boy was transverse bordering on breech! All the previous drs had really thought he was heads down... So- he gave me the option of a c-section or a c-section... I chose the c-section :)

There was no chance of version at 8cm, water broken, 39+week baby...

So - at 5:11am they pulled out my son, Andrew, weighing 8lbs, 13 oz!  I have no idea how he got that big, since I was never very big, and only gained 25 pounds. I lost a fair bit of blood during surgery, but other than that, have done well. He is nursing pretty well, and we are getting better and not pinching and hurting. And he has tons of dark hair!

And I really can't believe how much I love him! And how good he smells.

I can't believe how fast it all happened, less than 4 hours from check in until baby- so I never really got worn out from labor, really didn't have much pain, and he never got stressed! If he had been facing the right direction it probably would have been a good vaginal delivery, but I can't say that the c-section was bad either! And the dr thought I'd be a good candidate for a VBAC if I am lucky enough to try for #2 (we still have some frosties).

Good luck to all the other moms heading in to L and D this week hopefully (Alie, BRsAugust, Orange Smoke... who else?). No matter how it ends up happening it is just so great to meet your LO!!!
