2nd Trimester

How many of you got a gender guess at NT scan?

I'm going in 2 weeks and DH probably won't be able to make it...   how many of you got a guess as to the gender of baby at that appointment?  I'm dying to know what the u/s tech thinks (if she can even tell) but I don't want to know if DH can't be there, and I don't know if DH should try to make it just in case!

Re: How many of you got a gender guess at NT scan?

  • I tried to get a guess at 12W5D but baby boy was sitting criss-cross the whole time and would not budge!! But the u/s tech really did try to look.

  • I got a guess at 14w5d or so. I didn't have an NT, though.

I did and it was correct.
  • our u/s tech guessed girl and she was right.

  •  My OB does my U/S's and he guessed boy at 12 weeks 1 day. It has been confirmed several times since. :)
  • My tech refused to say ANYTHING, much less make a sex guess.  I was sad :(

  • Mine was at 12w6d and he gave a GREAT shot...it was clear as day...and it was confirmed, he's still a boy!

  • I was 12 weeks, 1 day I think and the tech guessed 80% that it was a boy which turned was confirmed at the big u/s. I wished my DH would have been there like he was the 1st time.

  • My doctor wouldn't guess until i was 20 weeks. My biggest fear was them telling me it was one then finding out a few weeks later it was something else. But i wouldn't do it until he is there. His face is pricless when he hears from the tech what the sex is. Seeing his face was the best part of that appointment.

  • We were told boy at the NT scan and girl at the 20week.

  • My clinic's policy is that they don't even look between the legs :(

  • Tech didn't even offer a guess- I was measuring 12 weeks exactly.

Honestly I wouldn't want them to even try- it's not like I'd believe them at that point anyways!

  • We were exactly 13 weeks at our NT scan and the tech said she was 75% sure it was a girl. I must admit though, I almost wish she hadn't told us anything...its almost like a half guess that you can't rely on anyways. However, we just had our big ultrasound yesterday and it was confirmed that we are having a girl!
  • We were told girl at the 12 week and confirmed girl at 18 weeks.
  • Our ultrasound tech doesnt even try to look.  Way to many errors at that stage in the game.  GL in 2 weeks if yours will do it.  I'm dying waiting till next week!

  • Not I. The u/s tech actually gets really annoyed if you even ask lol, so I didn't even bother.

We didn't. I don't think the tech looked, either. We weren't really expecting her to try and guess anyways though.

  • I did, which was at 11w6d, and then they had to redo the scan at 13w1d so we got the same guess again.

I honestly didn't even think they would offer to look and I wasn't going to ask them to because I figured it wouldn't be too accurate so I'd want to wait, but when the tech offered to look we figured what the heck and said sure!

By the way, the guess is boy (and it actually seemed pretty obvious to us), which I've heard is much easier to guess at than girl!

  • I had a gender guess at both of my NT scans.

They guessed "girl" for DD (correct) and "girl" for my current pregnancy (wrong - he is definitely a he!). So 50/50.

It is just a guess.  And honestly even with the best equipment and tech it is a SLIGHT slight slight difference between boys and girls.  I read a study online that said only 17% of boys are "guessed" correctly at the NT scan.

I just would skip the guess if your DH can't be there and it bothers you.  It is inaccurate and then you both can look forward to the big reveal at 20 weeks without your expecttions being clouded by an early u/s.

  • I had to go back 3 times for my NT scan because my little one wasn't cooperating.  I think the tech felt bad for me by the 3rd try .. and asked if we wanted her to guess ... she guessed boy.  She seemed really confident - and said she wouldn't make a guess if she wasn't pretty sure - so we went with it.  Started calling "him" by his name and everything .. and at our 20 wk it was confirmed that we are having a GIRL!!!!  Of course, we're just thrilled that the baby is healthy and doing well ... but I do sort of wish we never heard that guess at 14 weeks.  It sort of killed the excitement of the 'big reveal'.
  • I got a guess at 11w5d, I believe. The tech had been right on my friend's 3 kids, so I felt pretty comfortable with her guess. She told me 80% it's a girl. The baby wasn't hiding or anything, but sometimes things don't develop until later, and they all start out looking like girls.

It turned out to be a boy at the 18 week sono. I'd say if they say it's a boy you have a much greater chance of them being right.

  • Not us.

If your DH cannot be there then tell them not even to venture a guess, since early guesses can be wrong much more frequently than later guesses.
