How do you feel about Everleigh?

I thought I hated Everleigh and considered it too trendy for my tastes (I still do, for that matter), but my husband pointed out that it's really just Beverly, minus the B. Does anyone know if that's where it originated? And had you recognized the similarity and I'm just slow?

Re: How do you feel about Everleigh?

  • I used to think it was chopped...sort of missing something (ala Beverly), but now I see it as stand-alone name. I can't get past the leigh suffix though...that seems trendy to me. Everly (while it has a Y) is what I would go with.

  • I had not noticed that similarity. I think of it as its own name, but I'm not sure where it originated. I actually kind of like this name. The first (and only) time I ever heard it was on this board. I have no idea if it is made up, but I think it sounds pretty and feminine. I think I prefer the Everly spelling over Everleigh though.

  • I like Everly. Everleigh is too cutesy for me.
  • I feel like it is better spelled like Everly. I like it a lot that way! No idea where it came from, though... and you aren't slow, I never noticed the similarity either and I have a relative named Beverly :)
  • I don't like it.  It seems trendy and it looks & sounds like some weird name my husband would give one of his Dungeons & Dragons characters.
  • I like it.  I like the spelling Everlee though.

  • I didn't get the Beverly connection. Maybe because of the spelling. I've never heard it before, so I don't think it's trendy.
  • NMS, but I prefer the Everly spelling.

  • I really like the name Everly, or Everlie maybe...but EVERYONE is doing the -leigh thing now...(sorry to those who like it or named their children with it...)I just feel like it *is* really trendy...

    LOL

I didn't get the Beverly connection on first glance, but probably would have if I had said it aloud a few times.  I don't care for it, and the Everleigh spelling is reeeeally trendy, so I'd stay away from that.  If you do use it, I'd go for Everly.  Still not my thing, but I can admit that the sound is pleasant and I'm a long way from hating it.

  • I prefer Everly to Everleigh because I think it is less likely to be misspelled, and it looks less trendy. I think it has a really pretty sound to it, though.
  • I really like this name, but only spelled Everly. If my husband's name wasn't Elery, this would probably be a strong contender on our name list if we were to have a girl!
  • Well I like it, and apparently pairing it with two other E names as middle names is a bad idea...as I learned. I think when I did a post about it I spelled it with the leigh, but thats b/c I was aware of the Beverly connection, as my MIL's sister is Beverly and I didn't want her thinking I chose it b/c of her sister.

  • When it is spelled Everleigh I don't get the "Beverly without a B" reaction. But when it's Everly that's just automatically what I think. While I do I agree that "leigh" is definitely trendy I think it's a cute name.

  • I just recently saw the name Everly, and I really like it. It's the spelling of Everleigh that I think is so trendy. I'm not particularly bothered by trendy names, though.

I did automatically think of Beverly.

  • I like it, but not spelled that way.  For some reason it looks forced or made up.  I like it spelled Everly better.

  • It probably came from the band the Everly Brothers.

Then someone made it a first name and so on...

  • I think it's terrible.

  • Sorry, but I do think it's trendy, eventhough it hasn't ever cracked 1000.

It was probably started by just another woman who wanted to use Evie as a nn, then tried to think of a different last name that nobody's taken yet, then changed the -ly to -leigh to make it look more femine.

That's three trends in one name, in case anyone was counting.

Also, I did not notice the Beverly connection, but I think there's a reason Beverly is #948 according to the SSA list. It's not due for it's comeback for another 40 years, IMO.

  • I think it's a very pretty name, although I'd skip the -leigh part. Everly.

  • I don't mind the name and it isn't recently made up.

    From Wikipedia:

There was an actress named Everley Gregg, born in 1900.

Also, Everleigh, pronounced and also sometimes spelled Everley, is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England.

  • I love it... but i do prefer everly as the spelling...
  • acl926acl926 member

Everly was going to be our little one's name if we had a girl, but we are having a boy so maybe next time.
