I had my first IUI today and I believe everything went ok.
I've been reading up on different parts of the boards and I never get any of my follicle results, BW results, nothing.....I've been thinking about switching RE's if this IUI isn't successful....
I'm just concerned because shouldn't I know all of this stuff? Everyone on here seems to know their numbers, etc and I know nothing! Also about the progesterone shot. I got it today before my IUI.
No one at the office told me if I would have any symptoms or anything from the procedure today.
Am I over-reacting???
Re: Why????
I knew about my follicle size because I asked and I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't read about follicle size on here. My first IUI I was given very little info - not told to stop exercising when I started stimming and a whole bunch of other little stuff I just didn't know and would have been helpful. Really, these boards have been invaluable simply for cluing me into the right questions to ask.
So I would give it one more go around with the RE if this IUI isn't successful. If you then ask questions and they don't give you the info, then I'd switch. Honestly, I just don't think most of their patients know what half the stuff means so why tell someone the follicle size is x if the patient isn't clued in - it may cause that patient unnecessary confusion or worry.
My RE doesn't want me to get bogged down in numbers and statistcs. That's his job, he says. He just tells me when things look good or great or things he is concerned about.
Part of me wants to know the details, but part of me is happy trusting his expertise instead of overanalyizing the numbers. Even my type-A personality is ok with it.
Thanks girls. I just don't want to be a "number" I think and keeping me out of the loop I guess I feel like it.
I should just go with the flow and trust him.
Does your RE call you with the results or a nurse? I just ask for my numbers, I doubt they would give them to me otherwise. Before switching practices (unless of course, you are really unhappy with them) I would tell your RE that you want your results all the time. That while it is his job to analyze them and recommend a course of treatment based on that, you would like to keep track yourself. They are your numbers, he can't keep them from you. Maybe he will be fine with it afterall, just because it's not his standard protocol doesn't mean he may not work with you.
If he gives you a hard time though, I would request a copy of your records and find someone else. We have to be proactive in our treatment and if it makes you feel better to know your numbers then you should have them. I can tell that my RE's office thinks I spend a little too much time doing research online and that I *know* too much, but they have never said they wouldn't give me my numbers. They don't offer them, but when I say "can I get my numbers" they always say "sure" and give them right to me. I guess not everyone asks though.
Good luck!!
I generally do have my numbers, but only because Kaiser emails all the information to me. This board has helped a lot in understanding them, but it also has me stress a bit more than I would like.
On another note, I just had the insemination for my first IUI today. I hope that we both get good news!I can relate. My RE is great, but she never gives me the specific numbers unless I ask. I still don't know what my FSH and when I go in for my follie checks, she just says "lookin' good", or "2 on the left and 3 on the right". I'm sure if you let her know you're interested in the specific numbers, she'll give them to you.............every once in a while, I'll ask about my follie size and she'll tell me, but I always have to ask.
Oh, and GL and sticky dust to you! I'm just a few days behind you!
