Success after IF

Just got my insurance explanation from my appendectomy...

They are only covering 50% as it is considered an "optional" operation.... Have you heard of anyone who has their appendix out while 24 weeks pregnant by choice?

Wow.  Seriously?  What are they smoking?!?  I'm sure you were advised by your doctor to do it.  It's not like it's plastic surgery!

  • I would seriously fight it. Nothing with these insurance companies is set in stone. We have been fighting with ours now over some IVF  for almost 9 months!!  It's a pain in the tush to constantly have to call the insurance companies and then call doctors and then check up on the doctors to see if they followed through. But we have won most of our claims that BCBS originally said they wouldn't pay for.  So, all the time and effort does "pay" off!!

Also, I woud def NEVER have an appedix out while pg, never mind having 2 other kiddos to look after.  You are one tough cookie!!

  • That is ridiculous, they should definitely cover it.  Hope you can get it straightened out without too much trouble-- and I'm happy you're doing ok-- that could have been really dangerous!

  • They have not heard from the last of me!!! GRRRRRR

I had no option. My OB said if they do not take it out and it is bad, I would lose the baby. Hands down... did not sound like a choice was offered to me.

  • I would call and dispute this! It was an emergency! I had a problem with my insurance saying that Brady's pyloric stenosis surgery was an emergency and they would cover in full! I drove them crazy no joke would hound them daily! I went through my benefits book and it said that any surgery that a surgeon felt was emergency would be covered at 100% if with in network hospital/surgeon and if out of net work would have a deductible of $250! I actually ended up threatening to report them and sure enough it was paid at 100%
