Success after IF

Strep B question

My perinatologist found I have strep B after reviewing some test results during my NT scan.  I am on penicillin for 10 days.  He spoke briefly about testing for it again at 35 weeks, and will then be given an antibiotic when I'm in labor to avoid complications.  Has anyone that was diagnosed with this during pregnancy tell me about their experience while in labor?  Seems like it's quite common, but it still doesn't sound good.

Re: Strep B question

  • There's really nothing to it.  When I was in labor, they added an antibiotic to my IV.  That was it.  GL!

  • Don't fret about it for a second.  I found out that I had Strep B around 28w.  I was induced and had a great/rather quick labor and I received a course of antibiotics during labor.  I think I was supposed to get 2 rounds, but since I went kind of quick I only got one.

Either way, everything was great during labor and after.

Its super common and nothing to worry about.  Just make sure that when you go into labor that you remind your doc that you're positive for Strep B.  It might mean less laboring at home/more laboring at the hospital to make sure you get your antibiotics.

Ditto.  And, for us, they made sure to keep us the full 48 hours (he was born in the evening and they typically discharge in the a.m. of the second day, but kept us until the evening) to  keep an eye on DS, just in case.

Ditto this.  The only issue is making sure you get the antibiotic at least four hours before LO is delivered.  DS arrived right at the four hour mark...

  • thanks ladies, i appreciate the responses.  i feel better :)

  • I agree with everyone else.  When I went into labor (water broke at home) my OB also said to come right in to the hospital and not labor at home at all.  I was also given pitocin to speed thing up labor was only 6 hours.  I sure everything will be fine, I think it's more of an issue of they don't know that you have it.
