gripe water ?

Has anyone used gripe water? I have read different articles saying it is safe and another saying it isn't. Anyones opinions/experiences would be much appreciated. TIA!

Here is a list of ingredients that can make gripe water unsafe;

Alcohol
Charcoal Vegetable Carbon
Citric Acid
Dairy
Gluten
Soy
Sodium Bicarbonate
Yeast

Some or all of these ingredients were used in the original gripe water, back in the 1800's.

It is very unlikely to find gripe water with these ingredients today. If they are still out there on the market somewhere, I assume this is the gripe water those articles are referring to.

Some still contain traces of these unsafe ingredients. If you're ever concerned, just read the ingredients before buying the gripe water - which you should be doing anyway for anything you put into your child's body

Personally, I use gripe water for hiccups. If they don't go away on their own after 5 minutes or so, I'll use half the recommended dose. If they still don't go away (about half the time they don't after the first dose) I'll give him the second half of the dose. They will almost always go away at this point. I don't use gripe water for his colic, and I have not found any side effects while personally using gripe water.

I put a tsp of gripe water in my baby's bottles when not breastfeeding and give it to him in a syringe after BF if he seems gassy or has hiccups.

I use Baby's Bliss Gripe Water I get it at Target.

We used gripe water with my DS and will probably use it with DD when she comes. We used that and mylecon...don't know if it worked, but at least we felt like we were doing something that may help.
