Why do so many people think wives try to control their husbands?

I'm due on 8/3 and my husband just found out about a reunion type party happening at the house of a friend he grew up with.  He has not seen most of these people since he was a teen/early 20s (a long time ago lol).  A friend that he still hangs with told him about it and my husband asked if it's okay if, under the circumstances, he lets the guy know at the last minute whether or not he can come.  His friend said he's sure that would be okay but that DH really should come because it's been so long and who knows when it will happen again.  And that he should explain that to me.  Then the host called and left him a message saying he hopes he can come, and kind of the same thing - it's been a really long time and that he really shouldn't miss it. 

I don't keep my DH on any kind of a leash but he's not going to leave me and his baby in the hospital to go to a party.  If we're already home or the baby's not here yet he will likely go to at least say hello.  But him having a wife in labor is not the same thing as being whipped!  And you know what else is never going to happen again? US HAVING A BABY.  I'm just so tired of neanderthals. lol

    The guy just probably really wants your husband to come and your husband has been non-committal.  It would help, I'm sure, if your husband stood up to his friend and said, "Well, having a baby and being there for that is something I really shouldn't miss and won't come again ever."  But I'm sure your husband is being polite about it and hence that's why people think that wives control their husbands.  Of course, to be fair, there are lots of people that think husbands are controlling as well.  Comes down to personality, really.
