Is this normal at all pediatrician offices?

DD (3 months old) has been having a lot of issues and has gone through some different testing.  She had blood work done on Friday and the peds office had the results yesterday, but the doctor we saw on Friday won't be in until tomorrow and they won't give us the results until that doctor is in. This is the third time they've used this excuse and it seems ridiculous that one of the other 7 peds in the office can't give us the results.

Is this the norm?

  • That would be very annoying! I would think one of the other doctors would be able to tell you what's going on.

  • Not at my peds.  If the doctor is off, they can have the nurse read the docs notes, one of the NP's can do or the ped on call can do it. They would never make you wait if they had the results in hand.

  • Not trying to freak you out. At my peds only if there is something wrong.  The doctor has to review the results and sign off on it.

It is for our office.  The assigning pedi knows why the labwork was done, etc. and it would take some time for another pedi to read through the chart and understand what was done and why, THEN review the results and call.  So more an efficiency thing than anything.

  • It's the same at our pedi, which makes it frustrating, but they are the ones who know what's going on.
  • it's not the norm at my pedis but i think i would prefer it that way (as annoying as that would be) rexplaining symptoms to different pedis and get different answers would frustrate me to no end.  gl, i hope you get some answers soon!
